Warning TLDR

ok I went and did it. This mix has taken way too much time to piece together and yep im kinda losing it rn. Around 2004, I was waiting for the school bus outside my house, listening to DNB arena mixes in 128kbs audio on a burned cd because i couldnt afford an mp3 player yet, from various producers and live sets. I was pretty hooked, and through trying to find more, I discovered the style of tracks I was hyped about happened to not be very popular with DNB heads online. Users from Dogs on Acid forums complained too many producers were focused on making club friendly tracks, some categorized as "jump up" (yeah whatever), were too repetitive and simplistic. ok thats cool, I didn't really care at the time especially since I was American and also too young even to step foot in a club. You'll notice that this mix features DJ Clipz or Clipz pretty heavily. He and a few other producers had some haters for sure, little did they know at the time he would go on to gain notoriety as one of the few people left in the scene pushing vinyl only releases. I could go on about more nonsense you probably dont really care about but, idc who you ask, the term "clownstep" was made to describe his music. This is more of a love letter to his contribution to the scene in the early 2000s that made me get hooked on it. 

With all that being said several of the tracks can only be found on vinyl copies so the mix goes back and forth between my Pioneer CDJs and Turnables. I did notice I have a grounding or balance issue going inside my computer and its picking up some kind of EMI. I couldn't hear it during mixing but its there in the background slightly. You'll hear me messing with some of the levels in this as well to prevent clipping ect. This was deff an experiment on my part that I'll get sorted if and when I need to do another mix with Vinyl.

It's a drum and bass tribute to the golden age of the PlayStation, back when everything felt faster, dirtier, realer. Back when we were still counting polygons kid. 

Think Wipeout 2097, Ridge Racer, Need for Speed. This is the sound of busted-up jungle drum and bass straight from a memory card left in the rain.

Yeah, there's liquid DnB in here, even some future garage, the kind that creeps in when the streets are empty and the rain won’t stop and you can't get those damned memories outta your head. But don’t get it twisted kid, the heart of this record is that early-2000s jungle mayhem. The stuff that came out of blown speakers and off bootleg discs. That sound that made you drive too fast and care too little.

So here’s your induction, rookie. The Mean Streets don’t care who you are. But if you’re gonna race out here, you better have the right soundtrack. And now, you do.
