Disquiet Junto Project 0599: Minimal(ist) Blend

How the sounds were created might best be described as follows: 
- Recorded 5 polyrhythmic guitar tracks (in 3, 4, 5 and 7) live, over the entire duration of the track ~3.5 minutes
- Disguised them, only allowing each to come to the fore occasionally
- Added up-front metallic sounds, single hit percussion and a bassy pad
- Mixed those ingredients to allow different aspects to shine in turn.

I went for a bike ride and recorded the ambient sounds with a mini recorder. Subsequently I took several samples at different speeds and mixed them via 'csound' at different speeds even in reverse. First time using ambient sounds to make a piece.

Poltergeist Party (disquiet0617)

A dark ambient track inspired by Halloween, created with Csound. A collage of my musical past, processed in various ways to create a soundscape that is both unsettling and otherworldly. The familiar is twisted and distorted, creating a sense of unease. The result is a track that is both experimental and atmospheric.

Disquiet Junto Project 0617: Haunt Scape
The Assignment: Halloween is coming up. Do your thing.

Lucky me, I'd already created a spooky track a few days before this prompt showed up in my inbox. I turned my entryway into a Victorian spirit photographer's haunted darkroom. I even built an imitation of an old box camera using stuff around the house and my neighbor/friend's 3D printing skills. 

This loopable track doesn't quite match the level of intricacy I had in my head but I think it totally did the trick for my Halloween party Friday evening and will work just great for trick-or-treaters Tuesday. 

The little clip of a woman's voice is from a movie I discovered while searching for films about Spiritualism called "Séance On A Wet Afternoon". One thing I would have done more of if I'd had more time was find more eerie clips like that. 

The soundscape was created using some synths in Logic and improvising on the piano because you can't go wrong with a creepy de-tuned piano under ominous, atmospheric tones.

“This week’s Junto project has always been one of my favourites – so I recorded the first third of what will eventually become a trio. I played it on my Tele through a simple, straightforward signal chain of Chase Bliss Mood (the main sound), fed through a Dark Star and a Polymoon to add space and variations in terms of timbre. No further editing in the DAW. I went for as sparse a track as I could, to provide as much space as possible for my potential collaborators. My hope is that you feel inspired by my “almost crumbling to pieces” vibe, and I look forward to hearing what you will be adding over the coming weeks for it to become a trio recording.”

My own additional process notes - 
On 3/15, I recorded about 9 minutes of prepared cuatro and picked some bits I liked for this piece. I used a few native Ableton Live effects, panned to right.

A collective based out of Lisbon & London they have delivered for us the Shell Beach EP, a collection of balmy cuts rich in colour and melody and packed with dance-floor power perfect for the rise in temperatures. On the remix Joe Morris applies his balearic beach breaks vibe while Statues slows the tempo with an chugging Italo-house refix.
