Max Doblhoff ́s first release with the talented and great musician Idd Aziz Kunya from Nairobi/Kenya.
After Max & Idd were jaming in the Club Sikiliza in Nairobi 2003 the musical connection never stopped and we now presenting our first release Djemaa.

…how everything began:

Marrakech 2010, prophet Mohammed’s birthday on the famous ‘Djemaa el Fna’ court, extraordinary musicians gather from all over the country to honour the prophet – in the midst of it Max Doblhoff, who inspired by the music starts to translate the various sounds into his own musical world. DJEMAA was born.

Max Doblhoff mixes his beats starting of with an original soundscape of the legendary market place in Marrakech, changing into mystical ‘Oud’ sounds, followed by Darbuka, inspiring Flutes by Georg Barnert and a beautiful energetic epic voice of Idd Aziz Kunya. 

It is a fusion of classical instruments such as bass and flute with synthesizer sounds and electric beats – a trademark of Max Doblhoff – which rounds off this unique production full of traditional Gnawa Rhythms.

To complete a nice journey through ethno grooves, electroacoustic, tribal & house music we are presenting three artists with their special Remix Versions of  Djemaa

Hendrix wrote The Wind Cries Mary after a fiery argument with his girlfriend, Mary, who (believe it or not) struck him with a frying pan. Out of that chaos came a song soaked in sorrow, longing, and poetic beauty:

 "Somewhere a Queen is weeping, somewhere a King has no wife..."
I approached this remix with the same raw emotion and sonic storytelling that Hendrix poured into the original.

Berlin’s genre-blending powerhouse Dina Summer - comprised of Kalipo (also known from electro-punk outfit Frittenbude) and the dark disco duo Local Suicide - unleashed their second full-length album Girls Gang earlier this year via Iptamenos Discos.
Spanning 11 tracks, the record is a bold and versatile exploration of themes like empowerment, outsider identity, impermanence, nostalgia, and human connection. While their debut leaned heavily into club-ready sounds influenced by italo disco and ’90s electro, Girls Gang embraces a broader sonic spectrum, weaving in elements of new wave, post-punk, and synth pop.
Following a string of standout remixes from DJ Hell, Damon Jee, Phunkadelica, and The Populists, the trio returns with another round of reworks by a circle of befriended artists.
Cologne-based musician Etane, known for his unique genre blend and deep involvement in the music community, reinterprets ‘Hypnotized’ by merging 80s Italo disco aesthetics with a driving techno bassline. He pairs a dreamy atmosphere with a luminous sense of motion, guiding listeners toward a glowing horizon. Echoing the song’s core theme, the spell of hypnotization is carried by airy, string-like melodies and a steady, magnetic groove.
