Long Time

Cementing himself as an integral part of the French Indie music scene, French producer and multi-instrumentalist Crayon, real name Lauren Larue, signed to Erased Tapes in 2021 to herald in a new chapter in his life.

His two track EP, consisting of Misplaced and Ithinkso, sees him going back to his electronic, UK-infused roots. Whilst the opening song Misplaced — featuring vocals from Gracy Hopkins and Jo Lowenthal of Australian indie band Tora — maintains a clearer narrative; the second is a blend of traditional 00’s uk garage and jazz, almost fully instrumental. It’s this clear contrast the producer wanted to explore further, made possible by spending a month away in Morocco with choreographer Leo Walk and a bunch of other creatives and friends in early 2020. While Misplaced had already been recorded several months before, Ithinkso was sitting comfortably amongst a raft of other unfinished songs in Crayon’s hard drive. “It was only after seeing Leo’s excitement at first listen, and the incredible and abstract dance moves he would throw while discovering the song that I knew I had to do something with it,” the artist recalls.

As he and Leo went to spend a week at Plastician’s mystical domain Jean Francois Fourtou, in the outskirts of Marrakech, they found themselves submerged in a parallel world, surrounded by giant sculptures of insects, and a fully equipped, real sized reversed house. One quiet night they decided to experiment together with Leo repeating specific moves, almost turning himself into a human boomerang, while Crayon’s assignment was to write an assimile yet efficient electronic beat to it. After sampling a very short bit from French Soul singer Enchantée Julia (who Crayon was producing for at the time), Ithinkso was born, named after what they would both hear phonetically from the sample.

Both tracks wouldn’t have been completed without yet another collaborator, Crayon’s then roommate Bastien Brison, a Paris based jazz pianist. Together they held, when Lauren returned from the trip, what they simply called The Jazz Club in their apartment. It was a weekly jam/live painting/dancing event that they opened to a (not so) small lucky audience as a way to cope with the absence of live music, and events in general. Once again, the clear contrast between traditional jazz music and modern sounds and movements, that gave him the urge to make this project.

Steven Pont is misschien wel Nederlands bekendste ontwikkelingspsycholoog. Hij heeft columns in het AD, het Parool, J/M en Mama. Hij verschijnt regelmatig op televisie en schreef veel boeken, waaronder ‘Alle liefde is economie’, ‘Mensenkinderen’ over de 17 ontwikkelinggebieden van jonge kinderen en ‘Sociaal vaardig!’ over waarom sociaal vaardige kinderen de gelukkigste zijn.

Steven is een no-nonsense pedagoog én vader van 2 jongens van 12 en 13. Hij heeft een duidelijke kijk op onze risico-mijdende maatschappij en de negatieve invloed die dat heeft op onze kinderen. Hij is voor het overschrijden van grenzen en het nemen van risico’s, want alleen zo leren kinderen wat het leven voor verrassingen in petto heeft en leren ze hun eigen kracht kennen.

Kortom, een man met een verhaal dat helemaal raakt aan de Praktijkvader-filosofie over stoppen met opvoeden vanuit angst en controle en beginnen met voorleven vanuit vertrouwen en liefde.

En Steven heeft een duidelijke kijk op wat jij als ouder nu moet doen om je kind een stevige basis te geven voor zijn of haar toekomst. Hoe ga je om met conflicten? Welke grenzen hanteer je wel en welke niet? En hoe zorg je er als ouder voor dat kinderen grootbrengen geen strijd, opgave of gedoe wordt, maar dat het een uitdagend en licht spel blijft. Dus: hoe hou je het plezier er in?

Peter Broderick returns with Allred & Broderick – a duo project between him and his musical partner David Allred – and their debut album ‘Find The Ways’ out on April 7th 2017.

Armed with nothing but their voices, a violin and an upright bass, Allred & Broderick began their journey to create an album as minimal as possible. Recorded in Peter’s studio The Sparkle on the Oregon coast, the pair used this solitude to focus on creating something as raw and honest as possible, particularly in what some might deem unattainable during a time where complexity is sought most.

In a world full of noise and the anxieties of every day life, Find The Ways brings us together and reminds us to appreciate and confront the simple and fundamental facts of life, and that we as individuals will eventually find our way.

“I sensed a truly unique character in David’s own music that is wonderfully heartfelt and sincere. With this recording David and I set out to make something raw which is an honest document of what we are capable of doing together at once, with just two acoustic instruments and our voices. I have always dreamed of doing a project in which I only use my violin and my voice, and to do this alongside David’s upright bass and voice feels like the perfect fit. "There's really no other place like San Diego. The weather's balmy all year, there's 70 miles of the finest coastline California has to offer, it's one of the most ethnically diverse populations in the US and - most importantly - it's currently THE epicenter for heavy psychedelic rock. Bands such as Earthless, Astra and Radio Moscow have paved the way for an astounding number of bands, creating a tight knit community of musicians. On this session Denmark's Jonas Munk (Causa Sui) joins forces with San Diego native Brian Ellis (who's not only a prime mover in the psychedelic scene, but has also been active in California's jazz and funk circuits for several years), and an assemblage of prime musicians from the area, including members of Astra, Psicomagia, Monarch, Radio Moscow and Sacri Monti.

The result is an intoxicating brew that's hard to put a label on. Fueled by the furious drumming of Paul Marrone, and led by Jonas Munk's fuzzy lead guitar and the multicolored keys of Brian Ellis, there's an unmoored, floating quality to the music the large ensemble was creating at these sessions. It's the kind of record you can put on and just let it wash over you. The closest references would be Miles Davis circa Bitches Brew, Hendrix at Woodstock, or perhaps Can at their most blazing and levitational. The music flows like an electric river of vintage keys, percussion and fuzz guitars. And it's glowing with life. Vinyl comes in gatefold sleeve with art by Alan Forbes and liner notes by Jonas Munk. For fans of Causa Sui, Earthless and Psicomagia this set is not to be missed!"

Martin Rude (Sun River) & Jakob Skøtt (Causa Sui drummer) team up for their 2nd album in 2020, following their acclaimed debut The Discipline of Assent. All basic tracks were cooked up from a new session on July 7th in Causa Sui’s Jonas Munk’s studio. This time around, the duo took it’s time to modulate a few ideas into several takes, but maintaining an “onwards and upwards” attitude, often relying on an original impulse or idea snagged out of the ether.

The result is a meeting of groovy electric jazz, open guitar tunings and buzzing electronics. As one reviewer remarked about their previous outing: “like one of those films where the protagonists fall through walls into completely different sets”, which is fueled by the fact that Martin alternates between double bass & guitars. The session was thoroughly produced by Jakob Skøtt, adding layers of percussion, electronics, samples, edits & effects. A duo rarely sounded this band-like before, yet the telekinetic raw vibes of the basic layers shines through. It’s a deeply layered sound, where opposites are erased:
Organic, yet synthesized.
Chaotic, yet organized.
Dissonant, yet melodic.
Jagged, yet groovy.
Experimental, yet enjoyable.

Martin Rude & Jakob Skøtt Duo: The Rest Of The Way

This music has been recorded at home, using bass guitars, some stompboxes and incidentally an acoustic guitar. Although the idea came much earlier, it must have been somewhere around 2015 when I decided to finally commit to making an album completely focused on bass guitar. No more competing for frequencies with the other instruments, just bass guitars sounding as natural as possible. Using simple but effective compositions and various playing styles. Freedom! 
Stef Zwartveld was kind enough to play the drums on 2 songs.
