Frank Zappa was a unique artist who combined many different elements from many different styles. He loved to take rhythms and melodies to another level.

The Black Page is one of the pieces where Frank used unusual rhythms to take a piece to a new level.

For the drums I used Session Drummer VSL, Garitan Jazz, and Big Band.  Yamaha M06 for the synths and glockenspiel. Nord Electro 4D for the marimba. Nord Piano 2 HA88 for the piano. Fender jazz bass, custom MarbleHead guitar, and flute. I'm also singing the trombone solo at the end.

Frank was always hearing the studio musicians in LA talking about the fear of going into sessions some morning and being faced with "the black page."  So he decided to write his "Black Page."

The drums were from Session Drummer plus some percussion. More percussion was from Garitan Jazz and Big Band, along with the horns. The marimba was from the Nord Electro 4D. The xylophone, violin, fretless bass, and synth were all on the Yamaha M06.

I heard this piece on the live album, "You Can't Do That On Stage Any More, Volume 1." I always liked the harmonies. I had fun covering this song. I hope you have fun too!
