Rewind << Born in Romania and raised in Toronto, Simina Grigoriu has called Berlin home for several years. The pearl on the river Spree has been the creative epicentre for Simina’s musical expression and has sharpened her natural feeling for beats and sounds. Each of Simina’s sets tells a new story and makes her cultural roots known. 

While taking classical violin and keyboard lessons in her early childhood, Simina’s enthusiasm for music grew steadily. From the vinyl treasures of her parents and the Hip-Hop freestyle of her student days, Simina’s sound gradually took on a style all its own, which she has explored and remained faithful to till this day. 

Her musical development would later take on a whole new twist in the clubs of Toronto. The influence of Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer, Josh Wink, and Juan Atkins, to name a few, kindled Simina’s love for techno music – a genre whose versatility captured her imagination, and which she would not be able to pull herself away from. 

Play > A few years ago Simina appeared as a bright new star in the techno sky and released her first tracks with various labels. Her release with the Berlin label Sonat Records was followed by releases with Phase Insane Records in Spain, Intelectro Vibe in Italy, Urban Sound and Frequenza Records. With the first huge smash in her career, Simina released her chart storming debut album EXIT CITY with Susumu Records. 

Fast Forward >> After almost exactly twelve months Simina Grigoriu has resumed her station behind the turntables. Creative pause? Wrong! Simina has become the mother to a baby daughter, and, as befits a full-blooded artist, has not let the time elapse without music. 

With the fresh impulses of motherhood, the artist fine-tuned her new tracks during her pregnancy, which have also just been lifted like a baby from the baptism. In playful tracks full of positive vibes and a solid dose of techno, Simina returns on November 16, 2015 with her first comeback release on Form Music. 

It is impressive to see with what energy and vitality Simina Grigoriu masters the balancing act between family and music. She remains true to her unique sound and is now, above all: a full-time mom with the vision to be led deeper into her music by an ever-present instinct for play. 

We look forward to more from an artist who we can’t imagine the techno scene without, and for a comeback that has more than earned the moniker ‘playful’.

Eigentlich war Kork schon immer ein Musiker. 
Im zarten Alter von 8 hielt er zum ersten Mal eine Violine in der Hand. 
Dieses wunderschöne Instrument sollte für 10 Jahre sein ständiger Begleiter sein. Unermüdlich wurden die Seiten gestrichen bis aus dem Katzengejaul ein ertragbarer Ton und später ein dem Ohr umschmeichelnder Ton erzeugt werden konnte.

Im Jugendlichen Alter kam dann die zweite große Liebe, die elektronische Tanzmusik dazu. Seine ersten Erfahrungen als DJ auf Geburtstagen fesselten ihn. Die Möglichkeit ein entscheidender Teil einer Party zu sein und die Stimmung von Menschen wandeln zu können ohne mit ihnen über Worte zu kommunizieren waren berauschend. Der Entschluss war gefasst, diese Leidenschaft würde die jugendliche Orientierungsphase überdauern und ein fester Bestandteil des „Ichs“ werden.

Nachdem er zunächst Progressive House gespielt hat, ließ er sich durch Konzertbesuche bei Fritz und Paul Kalkbrenner, Jan Blomqvist oder Boss Axis zum Deep House hinreißen. Jetzt wurde es Zeit dem Ganzen auch einen ordentlichen Namen zu geben und „Kork“ wurde ins Leben gerufen.
Es dauerte nicht lange, da wurde die elektronische Welt auch schon das erste Mal aufmerksam auf Kork. 
Mit seiner Premierenshow bei Soundwaveradio FM / London hat er direkt den bisherigen Zuhörerrekord des Senders überboten und 16000 Ohren erreicht. Seine Show „Travelling Abroad“ gehört mittlerweile zum festen Bestandteil des Senders.

Während seiner Show die zeitweise in über 50 Länder gleichzeitig gehört wird, wird auch musikalisch nicht auf Grenzen geachtet. 
Von Deep House über tech house bis hin zum harten Techno wird alles gespielt was frisch ist und vorantreibt. Natürlich schimmert auch immer wieder seine musikalische Anfangszeit mit dem geliebten Streichinstrument durch und verspielte melodische Einlagen finden ihren Platz in den harmonischen Sets.

2016 hat er den nächsten Schritt gewagt und ist dem jungen DJ- und Künstlerkollektiv „Deep Stories“ beigetreten, um seinen eigenen Weg nicht auf ausgetretenen Wegen gehen zu müssen. 
Man darf gespannt sein, was noch alles Geschehen wird.

Set Of The Day Podcast - 102 - kork

Rich vom Dorf befasst sich schon seit einigen Jahren mit der elektronischen Musik. Er hat nun schon diverse Partys in Hamburg veranstaltet. Anderweitig betreut er das Label Tächno mit dem er die gleichnamige Partyreihe im Fundbureau (Hamburg) organisiert. Wir wollen uns bei dem Hamburger Jung für eine super unkomplizierte Zusammenarbeit bedanken und wünschen ihm für die Zukunft nur das Beste.
