Kicking out the year with a one-hour living room party trip into slower electronic dance jewelry. With a personal and longtime dedication to everything coming up from the UK Dance music continuum since now twenty years, it was about time to make a tribute to all can be covered under the (not so much) enigmatic Deviant Dancehall subgenre. Thus, this final 2024 Drumatic Spaces focuses on key artists operating in this moving, Caribbean-fathered and sound system-fueled sonic culture we could also introduce as « Slow Hardcore » or « Riddim Sound ». Here you will listen to UK-based producers from the likes of Lurka, Mr. Mitch, Otik or Parris, as well as a French new guard with sound craftsmen such as Basile3, Stacktrace, Kaval or Vina Konda. So : let’s do the turtle skank !

Slow Deviant Culture HOST ON MONTHLY SHOW Drumatic Spaces w/ Tim Karbon (04.12.2024)

To please all passionate drumheads, I’m very glad to have one of my favorite instrumentalists in recent times on board, namely Charles Dubois. Hailing from France, based in the west side city of Angers, Charles is a real improvisational monster and a creative live artist of all drum and mallet music you can imagine, using a wide range of odd objects, surfaces and live acoustic effects as well as « typical » drum sets. Both in his solo efforts and with bands Kristallroll, Cloches Sous Pression or gamelan hybrid combo Ensemble Nist-Nah, his attention for weird textures and otherworldly tones draws a path for an ocean of sonic and percussion possibilities. For this new Drumatic Spaces episode, Charles put together a mix of his own works melted with traditional Gamelan music, free jazz gems and IDM oddballs from the likes of Lechuga Zafiro, Rian Treanor or Heinrich Schwarzer. We will not ring your bell any more… unless to relax your sweet mushrooms known as « ears » with an ecstatic torrent of DRUMS.

A Celebration of all things POLAAR, a label I have been a core and close member since 2018, now entering in its second decade of crafting passionate bass experiments and cinematic sound palettes. Thanks to main artist and manager Flore, the imprint will soon release a new six-tracker showcasing all POLAAR regular talents with a handful of collaboration with close friends and artists from the likes of Animistic Beliefs, Toumba, Abadir or Azu Tiwaline. So yeah, time has come, finally here it is. A full episode of Drumatic Spaces dedicated to the label through which I’ve felt in love with clubbing, producing electronic music and deejaying all at once, namely Bristol-based bass spaceship Livity Sound. Operated for nearly fifteen years by the label’s main artist and legendary sonic head Peverelist, this imprint is widely known for pushing forward the aesthetics of Dubstep, Techno and sound system culture altogether with a true sense of percussiveness, and thus helped to define the sharp contours for the now historical UK Bass genre. In this mix, I’ve tried to tie together past & present favorites tracks from Livity Sound main catalog as well as tunes from the sister / twin label Dnuous Yvitil. This results in  a continuous drum-driven energy journey into sub frequency and vanguardist riddim abysses. Don’t get limited, be LIVITED !

Livitime Has Come • A Bristolian Dream w/ Tim Karbon (25.05.2025)

Hot season ending for the cherished drum heads. I’m beyond glad to invite french / outta space IDM mainstay Loup Gangloff aka Danse Musique Rhône-Alpes aka D.M.R.A for one googling hour of experimental electronics and intricate drum madness. This mix is a perfectly crazy signature move to get into Loup’s galaxy of speedy polyrhythmic bone crushing orgy, putting together DS favs like Jlin, Ryan Treanor or Zoë McPherson (among a plenty of vanguard artists). Fresh back from a tour in support for asiancore rising prince Ha Kyoon, DMRA praises us with his unapologetic take on everything club twisted. Beware of the baffes ! And have a drum-ish summer :)

“Lacraia, também conhecida como “centopeia”, são animais caçadores noturnos muito rápidos que possuem o corpo adaptado para penetrar em frestas, onde se escondem durante o dia.” 

Com a constante eliminação das existências não-normativas do planeta, pensar na artista Lacraia é lembrar de umas das primeiras figuras pretas e não normativas na TV brasileira, um choque da não cisgenesis que invadiu a vida de todas as pessoas nos anos 2000, onde as narrativas heteronormativas ocupavam (e ainda ocupam) todos os espaços possíveis. Espaços formados por estruturas binárias de comportamento que se fincaram em muitas almas, uma geração que dava muita importância a um projeto de liberdade a partir das vestes, culturas, comportamentos e estéticas, graças à revolução digital que influenciou todos os continentes.

Precisamos imediatamente apoiar artistas vives, e interromper os processos de santificação das pessoas TLGBQI+, pessoas que não escolheram a morte, e sim foram condicionadas a interromper a sua existência por conta da estrutura de humanidade em que habitamos.

Entenda que tudo que foge de uma engrenagem binária, não é bem-vinde.
TRANS, não vivem lugares de binariedade.
BIXAS, não vivem lugares de binariedade.

Será que em pleno 2020 não estamos caindo e vivendo nos mesmos sistemas excludentes? Abraçando a verdadeira miséria, e beijando o antagonismo das representatividades TLGBQI+?!
