AHYØN x STASZKØ - PROMISE ME (NØVAR MASTER)

Darja Bajagić is a Montenegrin American visual artist whose singular body of work has been constantly challenging the “politics of the profane.” Taboo subjects are a constant staple of her artistic fixations, usually given a singularly warped treatment that provokes critical thinking in a manner not easily stumbled upon in today’s obscenely “politically correct” climate. Splitting her time between Luštica, Montenegro — where she has lived since 2021 — and Chicago, US, where she was partly brought up after spending her early childhood in Cairo, Egypt, she has been infusing her creative output with a tightly curated, decisively sui generis amalgam of Western World absurdism and Eastern European sensibilities. Closely attached to what some might call “fringe” music (or, more generally and politely put, “underground”), she was involved with the art direction of the boutique experimental/industrial/noise label Endangered Species for nearly a decade, until 2021 (in addition to also having visually contributed to releases by relevant, esteemed imprints such as Ascetic House and Avian), creating cover art for artists such as Vereker/Restraint, Skander, Die Kombination, and ANTIchildLEAGUE, among others. Her musical/sonic selections within this mix could not be more representative of her unique taste and approach.
