dub techno : discovery - 3

Radiant. The title of the 4th release from A_A contrasts with the EP’s delicate, sometimes opaque sonic landscape. Filtered-down kick, grainy lushness of pads, obscure noise, incoherent acapella, and bass that only exist below the frequency band of smartphone and laptop speakers, all contribute to the fiery stillness that drape over each of the 4 tracks included. While the new EP continue to be pinned by the duo’s signature leniency for noise and precise execution of sound design, it sets itself apart from the previous releases by successfully retaining the frail scent of uncontained, improvised performance while remaining firmly within the scope of floorcentric dance music.

TryError's sophomore EP on the Mood Series, titled Hope Is Not A Strategy, delves deep into the growth and life principles inspired by nature and organisms. With its intricate blend of sleek dub techno and atmospheric elements, the EP immerses listeners into a world where the vitality of existence is expressed through sound. Rooted in scientific principles, Hope Is Not A Strategy explores the interconnectedness of organisms and structures within ecosystems. The EP emphasizes that growth and evolution are driven by innate codes, rather than mere beliefs or wishes. Each track serves as a sonic metaphor for the dynamic and ever-changing nature of life, where organisms thrive, reproduce, and eventually fade away, forming a complex tapestry of existence.

The opening track, 'Vital Principles,' sets the tone with its airy, atmospheric vibe. Anchored by a deep bassline that carries a subtle bounce, the track is adorned with elements reminiscent of static electricity, creating a sense of anticipation. Optimistic chords float effortlessly, painting a picture of growth and resilience akin to the natural world. 'Soft Forks' takes the listener on a journey through low-tempo rhythms and warbling sub-bass. Sharp percussion hits punctuate the composition, juxtaposed against swirling, echoing chords that seem to dissolve into repetition. This track captures the essence of evolution, where moments of clarity emerge amidst a backdrop of uncertainty, mirroring the organic processes of adaptation and change. The EP's centerpiece, 'Mana,' exudes a brisk energy that propels the listener forward. Mesmerizing and sleek, the track incorporates elements of nature sounds, evoking images of vitality and movement. Its up-tempo rhythm and sleek production invite the listener to embrace the fluidity of life, where growth and transformation are constants.

TryError's Hope Is Not A Strategy is a shining example to the power of music to convey profound concepts and ideas. Through its sleek dub techno soundscapes and evocative compositions, the EP invites listeners to contemplate the beauty and complexity of life, while reminding us that hope alone is not enough – it is through understanding and embracing the principles of growth and evolution that true transformation occurs.

Vital Principles

The black and white hoverbike flew out of the fog at breakneck speed and raced through the neon-lit urban jungle of the Havan metropolis. It manoeuvred steadily between the skyscrapers, trying to throw off the tail of the corporal's convoy, which was getting closer by the moment, preventing it from sneaking away with the seemingly easy-to-get Zero-G prototype. This weapon could create an anti-gravity field with a single shot and disable even the largest battle cruiser. That's why an elite squad of cyber-soldiers equipped with modified implants and gadgets was sent in pursuit not to allow them to ease off for a second.

With a sharp steering wheel jerk, Spacelunch turned off the main street and into a narrow alley. "Your turn!" – He shouted insistently over the engine's roar. Cat rose from the back seat, took aim, and deftly fired his blaster. In a pall of sparks and smoke, the pursuer's hoverbike spun out of control and crashed into the building. Gritting their teeth, the friends raced through the winding maze of obstacles and tight turns. All senses were heightened with excitement. They could see a gap ahead and a way out into the slums.

Suddenly, a heavily armed police drone blocked the road, aiming its red gun lights at them. Spacelunch decisively grabbed Cat and jumped into the so-fortunately spotted sewer manhole, barely managing to dodge the gunfire barrage. After landing in a pitch-dark narrow tunnel, they moved on, with every step feeling the growing tension in the air and realizing that they could be found out at any moment. The darkness seemed endless. The only consolation was that they had the prototype in their hands, and now all they had to do was get to the spaceship and get off this freaking planet.
