To name a band after a Thorns Song testifies to self- confidence. But it would be short- sighted to reduce SME to a “Thorns- Tribute”. Black Metal as fundament, but styles as Doom and Avantgarde consistently blaze their trail through pitch- black compositions, Satyricon comes to mind, but stylistic underdogs such as Ved Buens Ende, Virus, Sleep, Voivod, Coil or even the cineastic Electronica of John Carpenter.

The intention behind the formation of SME on one hand was motivated to combine favoured musical styles and on the other hand to intonate the own worldview and experiences. 

Recordings for the first Album “I” started in July 2010. The album got released on July 11, 2011.

SME want to create sonic soundscapes which inspire the imagination of the listener. Every listener lives and interprets the songs in their own, unique way without any prejudices and limitation from the musicians – or to say it with words of the great E.T.A. Hoffmann: “I think of myself through a magnifier – and all creatures which move around me, are myselfs”

The new album, entitled “II: Destructive Interference Generator” was recorded in late 2011 and got mixed and mastered in August 2012 at Sonic Room Studios. Fore more of the half of the Songs Ben of SONIC REIGN is responsible. The album contains around 45 Minutes of Songmaterial with a lot of facettes of dark music. Like on the first record, SME is very unique with their own style to create musical layers. To intonate depth emphasized early as one of the strong excellences of SME. Thematically SME is on the same path, which was chosen on the first album. Time and space disappear on this cosmic journey such as the dimensions beyond the visible ones. But also a struggle with everything earthly is noticeable. Nothing is like it seems to be. The pain of being limited to the own body and the longing for a world beyond our imagination is an important keystone of the lyrical concept.
