Stellar Void... discovering new aural terrain in the negative space between worlds, embracing silence of the mind and using music as a means to bridge the gap between foreground and background perception... phase shifting between the waking and  hypnagogic states... sound as symbol returned from an inward katabasis spanning all time and space: once in the void, you may never want to come back...

While not a band or really a 'solo project' - Stellar Void is an ongoing collaboration between Samuel Foster and various inspired musicians.  If known at all, Sam is best known for his work on the cryptic US Black Metal classic "Dead as Dreams" by Weakling.  He also performed in the Bay Area Progressive Thrash band Saros before abandoning Metal to form the psychedelic heavy rock band Hollow Mirrors and flamenco / middle eastern band  La Ruya in collaboration with noted Flamenco dancer Melissa Cruz.  In La Ruya the focus rested on the meeting between Flamenco guitar and the Oud (the guitar of the Mid East and prototype from which both classical lute and guitar were fashioned), not to mention the intense percussion and dance integration inherent in Flamenco.   

Both Hollow Mirrors and La Ruya ceased activity in 2013.

During the musical hiatus of 2014 - 2018, Sam focused on learning modular synthesizer,  further study of world and eastern percussion, western esoteric thought (Crowley, Spare, Jung, RA Wilson) in conjunction with Dada and Surrealism (Ernst, Bellmer, Groz), photography and a deep exploration of the the wild spaces near the Bay Area and beyond (La Ventana, the Eastern Sierras, Cascades and so on).   

Stellar Void brings all of this together in its own unique amalgam - unexplored tonalities, symbolic terrain and a emphasis on the Void - non ego, wherein all things are truly possible.
