@plain-jane-1 has a love for techno. The sound she creates is unique, hard and melodic. She has been behind the decks in Norway since 2013, playing in clubs such as The Villa, Verkstedet, Skuret, and various underground venues. 

In 2016 she started the techno concept KINETICS with her fellow DJ colleague Tina V. They book up & coming as well as international DJs to their events. The next KINETICS night will be on the 30th of October at Ostara Bar in Oslo.

▌I Did your approach on creating music change during the pandemic and did it maybe even influence your style?
My approach definitely changed a lot since the pandemic. March 2020 was when I decided to transition from in the box production, to out of the box. I bought a Digitakt in July 2020 and since then have solely focused on creating music externally. Doing this has definitely changed my style a lot, the new music I'm writing is much less structured and more flow based. In saying that, my output of finished tracks has halted as its a whole new process, going from recording jams to then getting 30 minute jams in to 7minute tracks is difficult for my creative side. I'm still getting used to it after two years but I'm slowly figuring out the best workflow for myself.

▌II What’s your history with music in general and DJ-ing especially?
I grew up attending music festivals as a kid, so I was introduced to electronic music at a very early age, probably 3 or 4 years old. Infected mushrooms converting vegetarians was one of my favourite tracks as a kid. I stopped going to festivals around 6 or 7 and then started again when I was thirteen onwards to now. Aside from that as a teen I spent a lot of time at abandoned warehouse raves which taught me a bit about hard techno, speed core and dnb. I think all of the experience I've had could have only eventuated in to me being a producer and DJ. 

▌III What’s your favorite drink while being behind the decks in the Club?
Aperol Spritz usually but if I feel like spicing it up I'll go for a Moscow Mule.

Mind Against – Essential Mix – 10-09-2016

Sample based challenge for electronic music producers.

Rules: 

An 8-sample pack is released by one producer.

In each round contestants make a track based on 8 samples only.

Maximum length 3:20 minutes.

Tracks are uploaded anonymously on SoundCloud and producers receive feedback from the other contestants.

The top 3 tracks of the round are revealed.

Goals:

To make something out of this lockdown and keep the electronic music community together • To explore how we can get creative with strict limitations applied in our production process • To discover the spectrum of musical expression that can emerge from a single pack of sounds • To create a platform where new producers can release their music and collect valuable feedback • To help artists with similar styles and interests discover each other and cooperate
