It’s been 3 years since Step Back J has released a full album and in that time, he has spent countless hours working on perfecting his craft and going through the ups and downs of life, just like we all do. As we all know, life is not a diagonal line going straight up, but there are peaks and valleys, and each one of those dips in our lives are just as important building character, as the wins. 
Just like Yin and Yang, there are no wins without losses. Some victories are hard fought while others are easy. Some losses slip right through your fingers while others you just were not prepared for. Either way you must persist. Either way you must endure the losses and learn in order to win. The album “Winning Season” encapsulates entirely what it means to push through the hard times and continually better yourself and your circumstances and get yourself a win. 
“Passion” starts out the album as a declaration of who Step Back J is before moving into “Pirouettes” which talks about how life tends to move in circles. From there, the album gets darker as he touches more on heavier topics, such as the passing of his dad, his relationship with his mom, as well as heartbreak. From here, there is a turning point. Despite being continually introspective and analytic, songs start having a higher energy and bpm, to let you know things are okay. Enduring the hard times to get to better ones. Living in the present but looking forward to a better future.  Songs like “Mine” and “Spaceship” are only possible because of songs like “Caller I.D.” and “Control” and vice versa.
