Premiere: Krista Bourgeois's remix of 'Wicked Fervor' by Truant.J, taken from TRUANT002 EP forthcoming on Truant

Truant is an avenue for exploration of darker sounds, textures, and emotions. It is aspiring to be the journey between dance floor to the atmospheric and esoteric. The second release on TRUANT.J's self-titled label serves two purposes. First, connecting artists from the international Techno scene including British Techno artist JoeFarr, Berlin based artist Krista Bourgeois to local Canadian artists The GOAT and TRUANT.J. Second, providing an outlet for engaging a narrative of pandemic frustration as an overtone to the ever present burdens people experience of day to day life

This is the techno A side to the first record on my new label Somniverse. Deer in the Headlights will be out on August 26th on red 10" vinyl and digitally. 

After 7 solo EPs for independent hardcore labels like Meta4, Love Hz and PRSPCT Recordings, and more recent techno releases for RAW, Ghostly International and Possession, Somniac One is seizing the deer by its antlers to launch her own label: Somniverse!

As a firmly established name in industrial hardcore and fast-rising star in techno, Somniac One is perfectly positioned to color between the lines of both genres. A desire to go beyond boundaries to claim ownership of Somniac One's vast stylistic range – and to make you dance – is at the heart of Somniverse. Expect effective hardcore bangers, techno bangers, cross-over bangers. Bangers, pretty much, and the occasional tame B-side.

Deer in the Headlights is the first release on Somniverse and features two Somniac One productions that directly relate to the kind of sets she is playing to hardcore and techno audiences – always with the idea to draw fans from one scene into the other. Arp Track #1 is a classic piece of slowly unfolding, muscular and subtly euphoric techno, while MNDKNTRL on the flipside harkens back to some of the best moments in dark millennium hardcore.

Remember when you were just children, trying to build something out of a pile of Lego bricks, and how there was always one annoying brick missing? So often we get the same feeling coming across big compilations: the attempt to remain faithful to a genre or to a label's flavour sets unnecessary borders to a world that should remain borderless. Then, when we go over all the pieces, we realize that something is missing, that one or two of them were left outside that fence.

This might sound uncomplicated, however it takes decades of experience at the top of the game to allow musical freedom and yet remain faithful to the label's unique sound signature. This is exactly the strength of Noferini's compilation: from warmup pieces to peak-time hammers, from accelerating machines to after-hour goodies, from deep to tech, from vocal to techno, all tracks carry the famous Deeperfect signature. Punchy kicks, dominant synths and motivating percussions.
