FROM 14th July 2022: The PM Programme has been following the development of a new theatre, for the last few years, and it opens this weekend.

Shakespeare North in Prescot, is in one of the poorest boroughs in England. And the idea behind the new theatre is that it will inject money and energy into the area. 

Today we look at what difference it might make to the local community, beyond the new businesses that are opening up.

Stephanie Power went to the Lord Derby Academy in Huyton to see what a group of year seven students and their head of English think about the prospects for the new theatre

CUE: We've heard lots about food banks and pantries over recent years with a focus on providing food for people on low incomes. But a charity in Liverpool wants to change our attitude towards queueing for food in a bid to stop it going to landfill. (Food waste methane fact here)

Liverpool Zero Waste, started in a couple's living room in 2021, and has now grown to an operation with over 200 volunteers collecting from 100 big name stores across the region, including Tesco, Aldi, Marks and Spencer, and Iceland. It distributes surplus, with a short shelf life, that many food banks are often unable to take. Our reporter, Stephanie Power, has started volunteering for them.
