Clarion

This beautifully lyrical setting weaves in atmospheric pianistic writing and improvisatory birdsong sounds amidst lush choral textures. The poem explores the subtle music inherent in nature, suggesting a connection between the present and the past.  Affective text painting makes full use of the warmth of the renowned Ember tone.  

Through imagery of rustling leaves, swaying boughs, and faint odors, the poem creates a sense of mystery and hidden harmonies. It evokes a nostalgic longing for the beauty of bygone eras, represented by the "faded springs."

"There is Music" was commissioned through the Ember Ablaze Composer Lab (EACL), and premiered in New York City on 2 May 2025 at St. Malachy's Church/Actors' Chapel, in a concert entitled "Shifting Grounds."  The composer was awarded this commission as the FY'25 EACL Emerging Composer winner.
