Crossroads

In 1986, OBIISSS found themselves in the middle of one of their most bizarre recording sessions to date, culminating in the creation of Shittin', a track that was literally about the desperate need for a toilet. The session took place in a budget studio on the outskirts of London, notorious for its lack of amenities—including, crucially, a bathroom. Billy Noknees, already on edge after a long day, found himself fighting an increasingly urgent personal battle.

To make matters worse, an argument erupted between Billy and the session’s producer, Dave "Pineapple" Stokes, over the oddest thing imaginable: a pineapple. Dave had brought in the tropical fruit as a studio snack, but Billy—either hangry or just fed up—insisted it was a symbol of bad luck. The dispute escalated until Billy, in frustration, threw the pineapple out of the window, declaring that the "cursed fruit" was the reason the studio didn’t even have a toilet.

With tempers flaring and stomachs rumbling, Billy took his frustration to the mic, resulting in Shittin', a track that fully embraced the absurdity of the moment. The lyrics were as explicit as they were hilarious, capturing the agony of needing the bathroom while stuck in a studio without one. The pounding beat and driving bassline gave the song a kind of urgency that matched its subject matter, while Billy’s half-joking, half-serious delivery turned the track into an anthem for anyone who’s ever needed a loo at the wrong time.

Despite the chaos, Shittin' was completed, but it was quickly buried under the weight of its own absurdity. The 12" vinyl was quietly pressed and distributed, though it didn’t exactly make waves—probably because the subject matter was just too weird, even for the open-minded fans of OBIISSS. The single was mostly forgotten until, in 2022, a copy was found in the lost property cupboard of a bus depot in Wales.

Now, after years of being lost to history, Shittin' has been remastered using the magic of AI and is presented with its original sleeve. This 1986 oddball is a hilarious reminder of the lengths Billy Noknees would go to turn any moment of frustration into music, even when the song’s about one of the most basic human needs.
