NIHIL 2: Hubris EP is Angolan artist Nazar’s tongue-in-cheek ode to the reigning kleptocracy—a tribute to the government that cracks down murderously on dissent, adorning its public spaces with pro-government propaganda. 

It is a voice of protest from a diplomat’s son born abroad, whose romanticized perspective of a New Angola was shattered when he returned to live in his native land and witnessed first-hand the corruption, nepotism and manipulation that pervades the country's leadership. 

It is a documentary take on the consciousness of the Angolan people, a critique of the government that is beyond reproach for its massacre of civilians on Mount Sumi on April 16, 2015. 

NIHIL 2 is a referendum on the hubris of a ruling class that continues to illegitimately perpetuate its power in a legacy that stretches back 40 years.

Casi un estado

Un algoritmo vendía espejos y plumas, pero Eris quería una canción. Como buen avatar, se puso su mejor traje y memorizó en medio segundo cada nota musical del track que aquél le regaló (las canciones en las Zonas Autónomas Festivas* son gratis los lunes). Lo que ella no imaginó fue que, ni bien los ritmos orbitaron su casi-cuerpo-espectral, comenzaría a atravesar el espacio como un miasma sonoro, expandiéndose sutil y penetrantemente. Diluyéndose en cámara lenta por encima de las otras canciones de los otros organismos que allí danzaban, aglutinados y dispersos a la vez en aquel paisaje furtivo. Los sonidos se percibían por momentos como el ajetreo de 733.328 millones de caballos galopando, como caballos silvestres montados por una cantinela viviente que susurraba palabras de un lenguaje desconocido. Y así iba transcurriendo la noche, poco a poco se iban dilucidando capas ocultas del Viejo Mundo: una mezcla deliciosa y aterciopelada de Dembow por aquí, notas de sabroso Sandungueo por allá, destellos de Saoco… una sintonía casi perfecta que traspasaba cualquier piel, cualquier estado.

Entonces, las ondas sonoras ya casi se traducían en un holograma parpadeante de dimensiones variables. Un color fuego. Un color carne cruda porque ya casi era carne. Luego cuerpo extraño de dos cabezas, sonido ultramar y ritmo primigenio (o primitivo, mejor).

Ella devenía canción, 
y la canción se hacía carne. 
Hereje, salvaje, eterno niño.
