Having the task of opening an empty room is something that not that many people really enjoy doing. It’s a delicate thing to do and a beast of its own.

If you (as an Artist) manage to set the tone correctly for that same room, you'll be given the chance (by the crowd) to dig deeper into your music collection and play anything that you possibly want to.

Through this, everyone can get familiar with one’s influences, and knowledge of this music’s vast history. Mines are definitely deeply rooted within the late 80s, all the 90s, and early ’00s. I`ve always considered myself a DJ that definitely keeps the GU (Global Underground) vibe alive, but with a modern, techy, and twisted touch.

Just a couple of days ago I had the immense pleasure to not only open the night for one of Spain`s finest music exports - Dennis Cruz, but also to do a spontaneous b2b with him for the final hours of the night. 

I`m happy to share my opening set of that night with you, as I do consider this as my best ever play to date. 100% Stephen Popov vibes.

Playing a NYE midnight set alongside with opening for Marco Carola is both challenging and fun. You know you have the freedom to go everywhere and back, right in time to hand off things to the Italian don. I had the chance to sneak in a few classics and all time favourites as well as what recently has been rocking it for me. And they all blended way too well... you just knew the groove is there.

Born and raised in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, Stephen always knew he was meant to be an artist. Being introduced to electronic music from a young age, Stephen chose to follow the path of meaningful music, and that’s how the title of a “DJ” became a thing.
For the past decade, Stephen has accomplished numerous milestones. From hosting his very own radio show called CONTACT on the most popular radio for electronic music in Bulgaria, to being a resident DJ of Yalta Club & Solar Festival, playing alongside the biggest artists in the world. He always aims to perform at his highest but never stops looking for an elevation kick.
Stephen developed his style by actively listening to and studying electronic music history and its origins. His style varies in between House and Techno, but never loses the sense of groove which he describes as the essential component of any composition.
Stephen considers himself a creative innovator, which organically led him to follow the path of studying music production. Never satisfied with the current, he took the next step, focusing all of his efforts and dedication, towards the creation of his music studio. Pushing further his ambitious persona, he started producing his own music.

Stephen is an artist, whose ambitious approach and vision constantly evolve. Deeply obsessed with meaningful music and space, he always explores the mysterious and unknown universe of sound. His artistic journey is far from complete, as he’s eager to pursue a diversity of musical destinations. Do make sure you follow him on this journey, as he loves to say “nobody has really achieved their goals without giving credit where credit’s due”.
