So.. with no way of converting a CD to our digital currency..I held my IPhone up to the last existing CD player and speakers.. in my wife’s office!…This is the absolute first rehearsal of this kick ass tune🕺🏼written by Chris Bennet.. a cherished friend and bandmate.. he passed in 2014🥵🙏 circa 2002.. my band had some interest from recording companies…we actually got to do a showcase @ The Viper Room., in LA., June, 2002.., brought out by the management from the band Tantric…🙌.. the lawyers didn’t know how to market us.. late twenties.  Early thirties.. too rock for country.. too country for Rock.. last show played in September 2003.. Chris Bennet is on  the left.. next to me!  Oh well.. all I wanted.. didn’t @ happen for me.. it’s okay.. I love being on the Cloud.. with all.. and anyone who wants to join! RIP.. This song was first written and worked on about 25 years ago! I had totally forgotten it's existence until one day i started humming it out loud and wondered what i was singing! Then i remembered it, and i dropped it because i couldn't think of lyrics that fitted properly. So, i started writing around the tune again and realized that it's quite good and needed nurturing again.
It's great to find stuff like this. I believe that fate has returned it to me via my subconcious. It was a sign!

the other day my wife carina (cover pic from early 80s of a party-filled stay with friends somewhere in denmark) asked me why I didn't publish something positive again, something just uplifting without dramatic depth. otherwise, people might think I'm a gloomy sceptic, a notorious nihilist and a pessimistic misanthrope, which personally wouldn't bother me that massively;-)

but of course, she's right, and always being a sourpuss gets boring. so, the album ‘retrospective future’ which was originally intended to be a trilogy is now getting a fourth track: a song originally titled “was ist das her?”, which I wrote around 20 years ago with duet voices in my head – at a time when I thought the previous 20 years were an incredibly long time. interestingly, from today's perspective, I feel no significant difference between 20 and 40 years. however, it's a look back not with a tear in my eye but with a smile in my heart. 

tech: the only way to translate the lyrics so that they still fit the composition, and, above all, the original vocal rhythm was to paraphrase some phrases. I hope all native english speakers will forgive me for any mistakes. 

drilling the rhythm of singing with its pauses and emphases into the AI was surprisingly elaborate, despite the uploaded template. for something called 'intelligence', the machine is still incredibly stupid.

but all the work was worth it because the result is very close to my vision. even if it remains a digitally simulated sketch.

all that remains is to wish you all a wonderful weekend, and to send our deepest love to our dearest friends gary and terry, who are going through a really difficult time. you are the best – and always in our hearts!

I used to write songs for other artists and thought that getting covers was what it was all about. Whenever I heard the end results of what other artists, producers or A&R people would do with my songs, I always found it disappointing. So I started creating in other areas,  inventing the Stepp digital guitar and founding several startups in mobile and healthcare.  Then about twelve years ago I started writing again but this time I wrote for myself and rediscovered my passion for the craft of songwriting.

I play a Fender Jazzmaster (my current go-to), American Fender Tele, Taylor acoustic, Epiphone Sheraton II Pro, Fender Jazz Bass, Line 6 Variax JTV, Stepp DG1 (of course!), Nord Piano 5/MIDI keyboard, Gretsch Lap Steel and am learning pedal steel on a Sho-Bud Pro pedal steel guitar. 

The Soundcloud community has fostered my motivation for songwriting and music discovery. Thanks for listening - every comment, constructive or otherwise inspires me.
