After the warm and beautiful indie leaning EP from Dead Heat, Life and Death steps back up to the plate with two fresh dancefloor killers found in Mind Against's new Avalon EP. 

With sounds that seem plucked from an early 80s children's filmstrip gone very wrong (or perhaps very very right) Mind Against weave a dark, inspired charge into the black of night with both sides of this stunning EP.

On the A side is Several Times, a techno gem that comes out of the gate at breakneck pace with solid drums, bass and a rhythmic synth pulse that evolves slowly and strongly until finally augmented by a main analog synth line that reaches over from the other side and grabs you directly by the ears. It's an evocative melody that keeps the listener on edge with tones that are fully present yet almost barely hold together, teetering just on the edge of falling apart but never quite falling away from just where they need to be. A techno themed soundtrack to a disturbing Groundhog Day of the faraway future.

Over on the B side is the EP's namesake with a simmering sound that makes reference to the ancient island home of legendary sorceress Morgan Le Fey, sister of the famous King Arthur and whose mystic ways were to blame for mirages seen by sailors long out at sea. Here again an analog synth casts its spell on the listener, framed by delayed chords and a foreboding low end growl that slowly tell the tale of Avalon. Managing the difficult task of painting a picture without form, Mind Against weave an emotional drama without words and yet their vocabulary of sound seems keenly up to the task. No easy feat but one this duo have proven again and again that they are more than able to accomplish.

After the positive reactions on "Diablo", Oliver and I naturally decided to dive into a follow-up (with a rather appropriate title)! Not sure why we chose Spanish names but we seemed to be onto a good thing so we decided to keep nurturing those creative instincts. We had quite a few ideas going back and forth with this one, hence the two-part approach to the final version. Conceptually and with the working title, we wanted to take a lighter approach to this one, creating something less sinister than "Diablo" and I think that we succeeded nicely, helping to eventually take things into our "Elements" series. I should also mention how excited we were to have a brilliant Gaiser mix for this! - Dubfire

Pan-Pot "White Fiction"

Julien Bracht is mainly known in the Frankfurt area, thanks to his gigs at Cocoonclub and the cooperation with the Bad Boys Club parties. His sound is generally following the House revival that has been pursued by labels like Cécille or producers like Sascha Dive.
In "Aime Light", Bracht pulls plenty of Dub delays from the drawer, besides some really cool and serene vocals. Trippy and crazy, but still dark and with a lot of potential – the next after hour is boiling over immediately, that's a safe bet.
With "Kurayami Love Girl", the percussionist Bracht is almost breaking fresh ground. Gloomy and weird, but still with a lot of depth, much room and crazy vocals, the track is far from being stupid mainstream – sporadically it almost reminds of the musical variety of a Pepe Braddock – magnificent!
The flipside "Acheronian" is, on the first glance, something like the "typical" Bracht track and could be seen as the perfect musical business card of the producer Julien Bracht. A minimal beat with House appeal meets a gloomy Techno background, generates a lot of deepness and is arranged in a steadily rising style, building up and up again. What seems to be a cool tool turns out to be a true peaktime monster, right after a few minutes!
