Damage Report - Neck Noose (Whisper Remix) [Premiere]

J-Path returns to CONFUCIAN with his latest release on the label.
Over the past three years, J-Path has continued to refine his raw and rhythmic brand of minimal drum and bass. As evidenced by his most recent offering, his musical approach is a perfect match for CONFUCIAN, the Seoul-based label at the forefront of the burgeoning drum and bass scene in South Korea.

Break The Spiral opens the release in dramatic fashion. Ethereal soundscapes and emotive trance-like arpeggios set the tone as the top percussive layer is slowly filtered in above a heavily syncopated kick rhythm, building anticipation over the course of the introduction. A metallic break sample switches into a pulsating drop loaded with techy bass stabs and sharp drums which gradually evolves as
percussive elements and warped basses are introduced and stripped away throughout the track.

In contrast, What Does It Take adopts a pensive and soulful mood whilst still retaining the forceful minimal energy of the prior track. A dreamlike sequence of musical elements immediately captures the listener’s attention as meticulously layered contrapuntal arpeggios and melodies weave in and out above Bukem-esque 808s and serene vocal pads. The reverb-drenched soundscape lingers after
a seamless transition into the drop, where a liquid reese bass accompanies crips percussion as various melodic bass stabs and wobbles enrich the sonic texture at various points.
With these two tracks, J-Path presents two heavyweight tunes full of minimal favours and flies the flag high for South Korean drum and bass.
