Subwork celebrates its 10th release by welcoming the incredible Dr Syntax and Octo Pi to
the label. This release sees these two talents join forces once again after their awesome
release on AFT Records, ‘It’s Like That’, in 2021.
Dr Syntax has been releasing music and performing since the early 2000s. In 2003, he
featured on Foreign Beggars’ debut album, ‘Asylum Speakers’, and toured with them
extensively. Later he teamed up with Mancunian hip-hop band The Mouse Outfit, appearing
on all of their albums and performing with them at countless venues and festivals across
Europe. More recently he has been known for his work with producer Pete Cannon, with
whom he has a string of collaborative releases including 2014’s ‘Killer Combo’, which
featured guest appearances from UK rap luminaries Dirty Dike and Lunar C, and legendary
Heiroglyphics member Del The Funky Homosapien. 2019 saw Dr Syntax & Pete Cannon’s
release their latest album, ‘Wallop’.
Octo Pi, originally from Swansea and now residing in Bristol, has released music on some of
the biggest labels in Drum and Bass including Viper Recordings, Drum & Bass Arena,
Jungle Cakes and V Recordings. His appearance on D&B TV after winning the Drum & Bass
Arena Competition for Remixing DJ Fresh’s ‘Gold Dust’ kick-started his journey into Drum
and Bass, and lead to him featuring on Rene LaVices Radio 1 show and performing at
festivals and venues around the world.
Their first release on Subwork sees them bringing their killer track ‘The Mission’ to the fold.
Dr Syntax brings his razor sharp bars and Octo Pi his upfront, meticulous production! A
dubbed out start builds into the raucous bass and beats we’ve come to expect from Octo Pi,
while Dr Syntax lays out his precision vocals, with both delivering a stellar track from start to
finish.
The flip of this release sees Octo Pi offering up yet another heavyweight track in the form of
‘Medicine’. Rolling vibes make this the perfect partner to the title track, with blissed out
vocals, rolling drums and deep, dark bass!

PREMIERE: Conrad Subs - Dragon [Koba Audio]

To coincide with Rupture releasing Uranus, here is my dirty Uranus that I could never quite make hit the mark to be in the Planets series. See also my track 'Venus' on my Dope Plates EP.
This one I thought was clever, I used sounds from E.T Boogie by Extra Ts and a vocal sample from ET. Also I used the Amen and Funky Nassau (or is it Gordon's War?) together with the tail of the horns on the kicks to kind of mirror each other.

VIP Uranus (The Final Lick)

Skeptical will be opening the Exit Records 2015 release schedule on 19th January with a 4 track 12" EP. Believe it or not, this is Skeptical's debut solo release on Exit, with previous contributions consisting of his monster collaboration with Dub Phizix and Strategy, the mighty Marka, as well as individual tracks on the Mosaic series 1 and 2.
 
The EP features the percussive roller and title track 'Imperial', which has been taking dance floors deep into the jungle over the last few months in typical Skeptical fashion. As usual with his tracks this is not laptop music. Sub bass is essential to appreciate the full production qualities and the whole EP demonstrates his power to achieve the utmost with the very minimum.
