UK acid house veteran Steve Lawler teams up with one of the founding fathers of Portugal's underground dance music scene, MC Johnny Def, for his debut release on Adam Beyer's Trusoul imprint, 'People'. 

Ahead of its release on August 19, Lawler shared a few words explaining the vibe and motivation behind his new single: “This track was written because of what I see and hear around the world on a daily basis now - the fighting, racism, sexism, terrorism. As a father, it scares the hell out of me. I had to write something, but never knew how to do it without making a depressing record. So, this is my attempt to make something beautiful, but with the message I wanted.”

Steve Lawler creates an anthem for our times in his long-awaited debut for Truesoul.

Steve Lawler first released on one of Adam Beyer’s imprints back in 2008, dropping the minimal-tinged ‘Doves / Chalkee’ on Drumcode, a collaboration with fellow Brit Alex Tepper. Yet despite the groove-orientated vibes of his sound, ‘People’ marks his debut on DC’s little brother imprint Truesoul. 

Lawler’s created a powerful hymn about the state of the world, linking up with Lisbon’s MC Johnny Def whose stirring vocal combines masterfully with a catchy two-note synth loop and driving percussion, building to an uplifting crescendo. The functional package also includes a Dub Mix of ‘People’, offering up a crunchy, tweaked out tech version, alongside an Acapella.

Lawler explains about ‘People’, “This track was written because of what I see and hear around the world on a daily basis now - the fighting, racism, sexism, terrorism. This is Anfisa Letyagos second release on Intec in the space of only a few months. Her last EP released in July picked up support from the likes of Ida Engberg, Pan-Pot, Alan Fitzpatrick as well as Pig&Dan.

Anfisa Letyago is a rising star of the Italian techno scene having on numerous occasions had tracks break into Beatports Top 100 Sales Chart. Born in the Siberian region of Russia, she has adopted Naples as her home, and become a regular DJ at many of Italys most prestigious events.

Other imprints to have featured her music include an eclectic selection of labels ranging from Spinnin' to Nervous, and this EP is another fine example of her feel good take on peak time techno.

The opening track Hypnotic has looped vocal textures that combined with the deep chord stabs, are accurate to the mission statement of the tracks title. Mastering you with its groove, the track has a shadowy atmosphere contrasting with the uplifting mood provided by the melodic notation of the pads.

You Got To Work is much darker than the first cut up until the powerful breakdown where gospel style vocals fill the track with an overwhelming sense of euphoria. Poignant synths add to the rattling groove of the percussion to create this high-octane cut of hands in the air techno perfect for peak time plays.

Berlin's finest duo Luna City Express are close to celebrating their 20th anniversary in the music scene in 2020, and we are extremely happy to welcome them on Lapsus Music for their last EP before the celebrations. We had the pleasure to have them on board earlier in 2019 with a track featuring house vocal master Roland Clark. Shortly after, the duo, alongside Robert Owens came out with a great 5 tracker EP on Exploited Ghetto. Norman Weber &amp;Marco Resmann are now back on the label with a solid and engaging deep tech track showcasing their passion for evolving synth patches and raw house beats. On the remix duty, we called on board the Italian fast-rising duo, Brokenears that have retouched the track in perfect style with their unmistakable house groove and rolling disco bass. We definitely see this EP crashing the dance floors of every dark and smokey underground rooms all over the world.
