From CompanyCar's 2004 EP - Backwards Going Forwards

This is the only surviving home demo of maybe hundreds of ideas and tracks I made using Reason about 15-20 years ago, under the project name Motel 4. The rest were on a hard drive that failed a few years back and sadly I didn't have a backup. Sad times, but at least I've got this one as a memory of the many late nights I had creating weird and wonderful (in my opinion) noise. ps Thumbnail is me sat at the make shift desk at my parents house where I made the majority of the tunes.

Possibly the best band I've ever played in and possibly the most memorable gig I've ever played when I was around 17 or 18 years old back in 1998/99 down at The Pirate in Falmouth.

Conch: a punchy funk-rock college band laced with humour! Sadly we never continued after we left college, maybe playing just 1 reunion/charity gig a year or so afterwards. This was the band and these were the musicians that really drew me out of my drumming shell (pun intended) and alongside the BTEC Pop Music course at Truro college, despite not being a particularly technical drummer, gave me the confidence to smack the drums with groove and keep things tight!

Justin Simmonds - Lead Guitar
Joe Crocker - Rhythm Guitar (sadly not in the photo)
Gareth Lee - Bass
...and yours truly on the drums.

As well as a few covers from the likes of Incubus, Chilli Peppers and Jamiroquai, we wrote a bunch of songs whilst in college with the best ones played at this very gig. Our own tunes consisted of:

King of The Conches

This recording sounds pretty dodgy with insane distortion (it was a crazy loud gig) but it gives you a flavour of our style, the vibe of the Cornish music scene in the late 90s and atmosphere of the awesome and grimy venue that was The Pirate in Falmouth, the likes of which is sadly hard to come by these days. 

Listen on and imagine yourself right there, crowd noise, a few bum notes and have a fucking blast!
