Rev your engine and play it loud. Producer and DJ Gavin Hardkiss is thrilled to announce the first single from his latest project with the NorCal juggernaut Colin Rist — yes, that Colin Rist, the tow truck driver from Novato, Northern California! 

After mentoring Colin in the art of Ableton production since the 8th grade, Hardkiss fixers convinced Mr. Rist to forgo any real continued education, in favor of this potentially career-edding future collaboration: PETOKEN. While the Amber Alerts, milk carton photos, and APBs were flattering (to say the least), Mr. Rist is now 25 and nobody is really quite sure where the past 12 years have gone.

What’s PETOKEN? Cracked right down the center, it’s sort of an un-word (like we made this part up) and it stands tall for all the things that are arguably better when broken. A tragically shattered heart after a bad date. A nicely fried, yet broken egg. Bread. Glow sticks. And we both know, the best parking meter is always a broken parking meter.

The debut track, Falling For U, is a fast-paced, dangerously erotic, love anthem that fuses techno beats with tribal rhythms, all wrapped up in catchy vocals. New Romanticism is not dead, but the 80s sure as hell are. So, add a dash of emotional chaos and you’ve got a soundtrack ready for late-night-rocket-fueled-dance-offs and those awkward long moments when you’ve shown up a full 2-hours before your flight, as recommended by the airline. 
 
Brother-in-arms Wade Randolph Hampton has sprinkled some magic dust on a stunning underground breakbeat remix that harkens back to the blissful vibe of 90s Scott Hardkiss. Screws were tightened by our famiglia Italiana, Exit Exit.

Falling For U (Gavin Hardkiss Remix)

Producer Gavin Hardkiss delivers a DJ mixtape of 16 songs  written and produced for the Inheritance project.

Inheritance tracks life growing up in South Africa through the '90s Hardkiss San Francisco era to his current multi-genre tastes. The project is a Basquiat-like collage of sounds inherited along the way. Voices heard as a boy through the second floor bedroom window in Johannesburg. Sounds accumulated in dusty warehouses throughout America in the '90s. Collaborations with Nigerian performer Bisi, Kenyan singer Lucinda Karrey, snippets of conversation from Johannesburg and Oakland, alongside Instagram audio grabs. All of it glued and twisted together over a 5 year period in his studio in San Rafael California.


Inheritance will be released as a DJ mixtape on Soundcloud and Youtube.  All the individual songs are available for streaming and purchasing at your favorite digital destination.

Gavin Hardkiss has long been a DJs who skirts genres and always surprises with his hybrid styles and rich textures that fuse modern and classic electronic music influences. Whether you’re into Amapiano, Afrohouse, minimal tech, highlife or breaks, there’s something here for you.
