Welcome to the 17th edition of That Disco Groove Radio Show. We've taken it upon ourselves to amend the usual running order for the show for this week in order to bring you a special tribute to a Chicago House Music icon, the late Paul Johnson who sadly passed away earlier this month. With a discography spanning decades and ranging from uplifting piano house right through to peak-hour techno, it's his signature sound of disco loops, driving kick drums and jackin beats that we've delved into for the first 30 minutes of the show. This in turn is followed by this week's Vinyl Exclusive from the man himself.

New Releases for this week kicks off with 2 slow burners courtesy of Javi Star & Mark Picchiotti on Groove Culture and Marco Zappala & Alma Nata on Nu Monkey. The tempo climbs from there with new and forthcoming releases from the likes of Jonk & Spook, Razor N Tape label boss Jkriv & Dicky Trisco under there production collaboration moniker Sentimental Animals and Igor Gonya on his own Lisztomania Records. 

Moonroy further builds his reputation as a breakout production talent with a track taken from his new Corona Moon EP on Super Spicy Records. The Disco Express label continue their rise with the new (free) XPRESS Edits Vol.5 which contains 4 tasteful edits/re-edits and we've chosen the talented Hector Zaroni's edit of Ghallib Ghallab's School Day's. And let's not forget the new horn-laden, afro inspired Up In Smoke from Tropical Disco label boss, Sartorial! 

For Guestmix duties this week are delighted to play host to UK DJ & Producer, Reece Johnson who has brought us a fantastic, energetic mix with just the right amount of deeper twists and turns. With releases under his belt on the likes of Lumberjacks In Hell, Robsoul Recordings & Moment Cinetique as with forthcoming vinyl releases on Super Spicy Records and Perro Beuno Edits as well as digitial releases on Midnight Riot, Midnight Riot and Sundries, Reece is most certainly one to keep a close eye on! My special guest this week is Ben Banjo Field. Hailing from "Costa Del Devon", but now residing in Cardiff, Ben has always had a passion for music.

After suffering a cardaic arrest back in 2011, his friends and family clubbed together to buy him an iPad to help him through the coming months in hospital, where he downloaded a DJ app and started his music journey. He has seen gone from strength to strength, with the power of music helping him through the tough times

Ben is a creator of  brand called “Beach Bar Beats”, with mixes of uplifting summer house, and his your tube change has had more than 50K views. But more recently he’s been playing more of a funky, disco vibe, which you’ll hear on the show today.

Ben has been DJing in some of cardiff’s prestigious night spots including Kuku, Vanilla Rooms & Pryzm.  with a career highlight of DJing at UEFA’s after party from the champions league final back in 2017, along with being the resident DJ at one of Cardiff's newest & triendiest hot spots, The Corporation Yard.

During the lockdowns of 2020 he created a music project called  “The Discography Lessons” to help promote overcoming mental health through music.  DJ mixes have been provided from major artists all over the world including Lenny Fontana, Ladies from Mars, Michael Gray, Doctor Feelgood, Da Lukas & Yam Who?

He has also turned his hand to music production, with a recent release on the world renowned disco label "Midnight Riot", which he opens today's set with. He also has 3 tracks signed to German record label "Groovy Firehorse 66" and 1 track to producer Per QX's label "Walk of Shame".

You can hear his “Drive Time Disco” show on the airwaves every Friday at 4pm on Broke FM, where he has been a resident DJ for the last 12 months.

My special guest this week is Lee Evans, a talented friend who plays elusively on vinyl, spinning the finest Disco, Edits and Soulful House.

I first meet Lee back in 2002, when he was part of a party night called Most Excellent, and I was running a night called Ultrafunk. We hung out at various London parties, and I recall a killer set he played on one of my boat parties. He is long overdue for being a guest on the show. You can read his bio below

** BIO **
After finding the rave scene in 1990, Lee bought his first set of decks a year or two later. Initially influenced by the music in the North West and clubs like Legends (Warrington), The Quad, Cream, The Hacienda he started his music collection and would play at parties, the odd bar gig and create mixtapes for friends.

Fast forward to the turn of the decade (and century!), now living in London, Lee was part of an underground party collective called Most Excellent, putting on parties at various South London venues such as Brockwell Park Lido and The Telegraph (Brixton), playing classic, funky and soulful house music playing alongside a few notable guests like Trevor Fung and Stuart Patterson.

After a break of about 10 years to get married and start a family, he started listening to the likes of Fingerman, LNTG, The Reflex and was hooked on the underground edits and disco scene. The decks were dusted off and he started to buy music again…

Lee is now proud to be part of the #DiscoWaltons family, a DJ, Producer and music fan collective who frequent the chatrooms of some of the best music shows and livestreams available to humankind!
