I should have done this 30 years ago.
Better late than never, or so they say.
It's a long shot, a difficult throw,
Yet here I stand ready for the play.

My heroes are all in the tomb
Save but one solitary soul.
Voice cracked and out of tune,
But some of the parts make a whole. 

Poets are the real, true heroes. 
Voices singing in the wilderness:
Words glowing like burning coals
That gutter in the emptiness.

Phrases tumble into space
Tossed upon the tides of thought.
But sometimes it’s so hard to face
The idea it may come to nought.
