Atmospheric grand master Okee returns to Codename: RCRDS with two stunning new tracks, which are complemented by reworks from label co-owner Moakz and rising stars Missen.

The EP opens with the title track ‘Soul Temptation’, a sublime jazz-inflected which has all the hallmarks of a classic Okee piece – classic vocals, beautifully precise breaks, percussive bass fills and warm synths and tones.

‘If You Believe’ moves things into a deeper direction, encouraging the listener to believe in its refined combination of stabbing bass, catchy vocals, haunting atmospheres and intricate synth work.

Moakz pushes the track further on his rework of ‘If You Believe’, stripping back elements to pursue a darker edge with the pounding bass brought to the fore alongside chunky deep breaks interspersed with snappy think breaks, before Missen close the EP with their uptempo rework of ‘Soul Temptation’, which retains the soulfulness of the original whilst pushing things further into a bouncier dancefloor direction with it’s locked groove and tightly knitted drums.

At the time Sutra events were Bristol's biggest dance parties, no other club night in Bristol could offer a 1,500 to 2,500 capacity event with 4 or 5 rooms of dance music. Based at the University of the West of England (UWE) and run by the events team there; the music policy was varied, catering for the full range of styles from house, techno, jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, happy hardcore and even ambient.

Sutra's first event took place in March 92 with SL2 & Slipmatt headlining, by its the third event in October '92 with Carl Cox, Sutra had established itself as a key event in Bristol’s dance music calendar. The largest Sutra event was its first birthday party for nearly 2,500 people with the likes of Ellis D, Ratty, Dougal, Dave Angel & John Kelly.

A lot of inspiration was taken from Vibes Alive (its predecessor), the Universe events, the free party scene and Bristol’s club culture. I like to think that Sutra's were a like a miniature Universe event, I used contacts from the Universe parties such as dancers, stilt walkers and Rob from Universe would provide his inflatable stars for the outdoor marquee. We always tried to make it a real show with great visuals, lights and décor as well as top DJs, MCs and live performances.

We also used a lot of DJs and MCs from the Bristol scene such as Jody, MC/DJ Ribbs, Producer, Mach One, Vinyl Junkie, Die, Roni Size, Joe Peng, Jack Horner, Daddy G and Nick Warren.

Maybe the key to success of the events was a big student involvement in the nights, playing their part as resident DJs, dancers and the promotions team (aka the Sutra Crew), for many it was the highlight of their time spent in Bristol.

In ’94, Sutra began a mid week monthly house night called House of Sutra in a massive club in the centre of Bristol. Which saw packed nights with DJ legends Pau Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Carl Cox (house set) and from the US David Morales & Frankie Knuckles and many more. House of Sutra further established Sutra events as a key part of Bristol’s dance music scene.

Ste Essence has been involved in the music scene for over 20 years 1st playing to a full capacity club aged 15 at an event called Frequency at the dance factory in Digbeth. Since then he has been involved in many aspects of the industry from promoting & running evens to producing music and of course DJing. He has held residency's at Gatecrasher, Stupid Underground & classics night Back Once Again. He has also played at some other high profile events and festivals like Eclectricity, We Love & Flashback and in house promotions at the custard factory with artists such as Sander Kleinenberg & 2manyDJ's to name a few. Other artists he has supported include the likes of D.Ramirez, Riton, Laidback Luke, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Ratpack, Slipmatt, Pendulum, Ms Dynamite, Professor Green, Mistajam and loads more. 

Since summer 2015 Ste has concentrated more on music production. He has been signed to Fidget Music and had several releases on the label, with his covers "Seek Bromance"  featuring Vicky Jackson making it to number 6 on the music week upfront club charts & My One Temptation with Sheena McHugh from "The Voice" reaching number 4 on the music week upfront club chart. His remix of Corona's "Rhythm of the Night" made it to number 1 in the Hypeddit house charts sitting there for weeks but his tracks regularly hit the top 5. He has also has tracks released on labels such as Kidology, 418 Music & Carrillo music 1 of which made it to number 3 in the U.S Billboard dance charts.
His music has been supported by Artists such as James Hype, Lucas & Steve, Tough Love, Freejak, Judge Jules, John Gibbons, Paul Morrell, Tommy MC, Glen Horsborough, Stuart Ojelay, Tim Nilsson, Damon Hess, Justin Wilkes, Nicole Moudaber, Stonebridge, Mark Knight, Sander Kleinenberg, Graham Gold, Jim Shaft Ryan, slam & many many more.
