Each text is a theory anagram, a brilliantly compacted and digitally encrypted political critique.... "Everybody's Nobody" is a collection of tracks primarily inspired by dystopian sci-fi. Steve Gibson draws on a diverse range of influences ranging from 70s and 80s electronic acts, the ambient-techno of the 90s, and the electro of the 00s and 10s. Interjecting some Krautrock and post-rock influences, as well as experimental, formalist strategies from his classical background, this collection is deliberately eclectic. Opto-Phono-Kinesia (OPK) is a body-based audio-visual performance piece. The title is a play on the possible synaesthetic state involving connections between vision, sound and body motion. Using the Gesture and Media System 3.0 (GAMS) motion tracking system, the performer can dynamically manipulate a complex immersive system using two small infrared trackers. With the FlashTrack 3D mapping software, single note melodies, drum hits, samples, light effects and images can be programmed to be triggered anywhere in 3D space. Individual parameters (filters, reverb, delay, light colour, image brightness, etc.) can be altered in real-time using changing coordinates or velocity. All of these tracks were created by the performer moving in 3D space and recording the results.

Opto-Phono-Kinesia (OPK)

In this track I control all musical parameters using my hand gestures. These were programmed using the Leap Motion and TOUCHOSC on an iPad. Literally waving your hands brings the music to life.

On August 3rd, 2004, Steve Gibson and Micke Askernäs spent a few days in Micke's studio in Norsborg, Stockholm. 11 years later the lost hard disk was found. This is an ambient excerpt of something performed and improvised live on several analogue and digital synthesizers in the studio on that day. No sequencers or programming were used in this piece. This recording was edited and remastered by Micke Askernäs in Sept. 2015.

The title track from this collection uses a deceptively simple surface to conceal complex overlays of synths, mellotron voices, and spoken samples.

This is an except from "Opto-Phono-Kinesia", a project in which all audio is mixed and manipulated live using motion-tracking technology. In short this track was assembled by me moving in 3D space. Melodies and samples were played live by moving up and down on the floor-to-ceiling plane. Only minor adjustment (i.e. removal of the occasional wrong note, smoothing of the effects) was done after the motion-based recordings.
