Sherwood adds supportive reprocessing to the live set from Laid Blak, tho’ never overwhelming what the band are doing. Now with a bit of history behind them, LB have become the most reliable reggae experience in the city this side of the revived ‘80s bands, and there’s not really much that the latter have that LB don’t do too. The double frontline works well, their own material is catchy, conscious, and sprinkled with contemporary influences; but they don’t ignore the roots of the music either: the much-covered Satta Massagana early in the set hits a spot that is also entirely appropriate to the occasion, not a million miles from the act of dropping a familiar sample into a mix. I shall be paying more attention to bills with them on in future.
