[ORLANDO, FL / U.S.A.] –– Steve Hillier released his first EP, Moving Star, on Sept 1, 2023. Two outstanding musicians from Lyon, France, guitarist Mike Noegraf and drummer Zamm Kenoby, provided accompaniment. Rafael Frietas, a very talented bass player from Brazil, is also featured on two songs, Come Back Home and Nancy. Encouraged by fans and fellow musicians, Steve recorded and produced this EP with the help of an online site - fiverr.com. All of the songs were written by Steve between 1971 and 2023. The lyrics reflect the philosophy of love and peace of the sixties, focusing on our need to exhibit greater humanity and tolerance toward one another, and on growing old, looking back and contemplating spirituality. Starting out the EP with a synthesizer solo reminiscent of 70’s prog rock, with Zamm Kenoby on drums, Steve’s keyboards and vocals whisk the listener away on a passionate ride, full of melodic and harmonic changes reminiscent of early Genesis and Yes. “Stepping outside, now you're off on a ride, moving star.” The song lyrics inspired the very talented, well-known book illustrator and artist, Leraynne S, to create the beautiful cover art.

Moving Star

Steve Hillier is a U.S. keyboard player and vocalist, who has a focus on creating music that blurs the lines between various styles. Wintertime opens with two blues-rock tunes that have elements of progressive rock and jazz. It then dives into a jazz fusion instrumental and ends with a jazz-rock song heavily influenced by progressive rock. He is always eager to explore new creative avenues and set the bar higher with top-level musicianship and quality production. 

As with his first EP Moving Star, the music is international. Mike Benson(tenor sax) and Mason Rosenfeld(drums) are from the United States. Steve Giddings(guitar) and Glenn Welman(drums) are from the United Kingdom. Mike N.(guitar) and Zamm Kenoby(drums) are from France. Rafael Frietas(bass) is from Brazil and C J De Rosa(tenor sax) is from the Netherlands.  Francesco Coppola Bove(drums) and Dee Wolf(backing vocals) are from Italy. 

The digital cover art for the EP Wintertime, as well as the EP singles Musician’s Blues and Nightwatch, are by the Italian artist Leraynne S, who adds another dimension to his music.

Musician's Blues (preview)

My first LoFi album released as a CD for a few friends before I ever heard of LoFi - recorded piano and vocal together live in bedroom studio directly into old Macbook microphone 1/8" analog input using Audacity software from my Yamaha S90. Drums were recorded after that on my Korg T3 manually - no drum sequencing or pre-recorded patterns.

Steve Hillier is a keyboard player and vocalist from the U.S. who released his first album in 2018. Before that he spent 30 years as a sideman behind soul and blues recording artists Bobby Stringer and Betty Padgett.                      

Steve started playing piano and composing music as a teenager growing up in Darien, Connecticut. His music crosses genres, from the blues-rock album Let’s Talk About It, to his instrumental jazz single Sunday Groove/Jazz Waterfall, to his progressive rock EP Moving Star. 

Steve released an EP entitled "Wintertime" in January. His newest music crosses from blues-rock to jazz-rock with hints of progressive rock and soul. His lyrics talk of love, passion, the need for peace, compassion, inclusiveness, growing old and spirituality. He plans to record and release more music throughout 2024.
