Welcome to the 100th Word Is Love Show and to mark the milestone we celebrate in the mix Studio 54's Birthday on the 26th April (opened in 1977) with a Studio 54 theme of Nu Disco magic. This is a show packed with Nu Disco new releases, remixes and Classics throwing down the very best Nu Disco in the spirit of the legendary Studio 54 in New York City.

There are reworked tracks of Studio 54 icons with music by Grace Jones, Sylvester, Sister Sledge, Gwen McCrae, Loleatta Holloway, Cerrone and D.C. LaRue. 

The artists on remix duty include Horse Meat Disco, Dave Lee, Louie Vega, Dimitri From Paris, JKriv, Luke Solomon,  Alan Braxe and a fantastic remix of Gwen McCrae's 'Funky Sensation' by Disclosure. 

The show uses a lot of music with samples from the Studio 54 day's of Disco plus there’s magic Disco remixes and Classics you have got to check out.

80s Remixed Part 2

This one’s for you Jeff!

I was arranging some tracks for this mix when I heard the awful news regarding Jeff's sudden passing and felt it only right to pay my respects in the form of both of our passions…music! 

I know Jeff was mostly well known for his hardcore rave sets but I also know he had a soft spot for soul and funk so with that in mind I’ve mixed together a full 6 hours of more chilled out 80’s club classics including one of Jeff's faves from that genre, Chaka Khan - Ain’t Nobody around the 2hr 56 min mark.

I’ve admired probably Plymouth’s longest serving and unbelievably talented DJ for over the last 30 years and Jeff will always hold a special place in my heart. An inspiration on and off the turntables and one of the key people to encourage me to start DJing myself.

Massive thank you to Peachey, Lee J, Roy, Rich Emery and all of the others artists who provided the amazing piece down the side of The Warehouse used in the vid...total respect!

80's Soul & Funk (My Tribute to Jefferson Vandike aka DJ Apache) - 17-03-23

We have been supporting Mikkelrev music for a while, with different releases on labels such as Oh! Records or HMWL. The Swedish producer presents 'Toulouse', his new EP consisting on 2 original tracks + 2 top-tier remixes by Menshen and Istia.

Sweden has had a particular influence in Deep House sound, delivering music with a very specific taste that combines Nu Disco influences, an overall positive feeling and complex synth work rather than a more minimalistic groove. Mikkelrev definitely shows this influences, as 'Zngr' and ' Toulouse' are two melodic tracks, with vocal samplings and uplifting harmonies that will definitely bring the perfect atmosphere to your beach club DJ sets.

On the remix duties, we are so happy to welcome Menshen (half of Monitor 66 duo), who delivers an impressive reconstruction of 'Zngr' driven by a powerful bassline surrounded by beautiful synths - one for the nu-disque lovers!

Another northern-europe producer, Istia,  remixes 'Toulouse' on his own unique way of treating laid-back grooves with relaxed guitars and saxophones - don't miss this one!
