This is a track that I recorded with my friend Todd Martino at the Blue Door Studios of Noah Guttell.

During a break in the recording of the album we were working on, Todd and I recorded this in one brief inspired take with no prior arrangement or planning.

Todd and I met as undergraduates studying music and electrical engineering, respectively at Arizona State University. Inspired by the common musical reasoning that emerged nearly instantaneously upon beginning to play with one another, we collected hours of live improvisations over a period of three weeks and distilled them into our self-titled album "haploid 23": http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/haploid23

Clostridium

On my way to Sydney to begin graduate work at the University of New South Wales as a Fulbright Climate Change and Clean Energy Scholar, I stopped in Honolulu, Hawaii to visit my friend Clay Ozaki-Train.

The morning after my arrival, Clay and I sat in his living room listening to the birds chirping outside and looking out over Maunalani Heights down towards Diamond Head. Clay began playing his guitar. I joined him on my trumpet and we recorded this peaceful improvisation on my iPad.

Only a few days after the internet sensation Rebecca Black assaulted the ears of Earth with her end-of-the-work-week anthem, the Bad Cactus Brass Band visited the Tempe studio of the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences for entirely unrelated musical reasons. A spur of the moment jazz jest resulted in this impromptu cover.
