Ok Peeps. Firstly the title. Why "The Ironing Board Mix" I can hear none of you cry. Simple. I don't really have room for a proper DJ table type set up, but instead have a large, sturdy Ironing Board which is the perfect height for my decks. Hence the Ironing Board Mix. Plus it sounds kind of interesting.

Next the mix. I normally plan these a little better, but this was slightly off the cuff, although I already knew a few of the tracks worked together. However there are a couple that are Ok in this mix but I could probably find ones that work better. This actual version was just a practice run that I recorded to see how long it might be, as I like to get it under 80 minutes to fit on a CD. It was also a chance to practice the mixes, hence some of them are 2-3 minute long so I could see when best to bring them in. Therefore a couple of the mixes are pretty ropey, although some are actually pretty good. After all that, I ran out of time to do it properly, so I am posting the practice version and might do it again better, when I have a chance. 

As for the tracks, well I start with a live mashup of a housey Jazz track, mixed with beats from the next one, then just run into a long mix of both. Then there are some beautiful melodic progressive tracks, before I take it a bit deeper with some tribal techno and then some deep tech house. Then it gets harder with some full on techno, finishing with a classic, and one of my all time favourite dance tracks. I tried to make it a mix that takes you on a (slightly cliched) journey, that is also as good to listen to in the car as in a club.

The Ironing Board Mix 3

Hi there. I never know what to say on these things. Here goes. I am a 46 year old male, whose passion has always really been clubbing and dance music of most kinds. Started with the old school raves, drum and bass, happy hardcore etc. Now I pretty much love most forms of underground dance music, which can be a problem as I never know what style to play from week to week. My real heroes are all the old school progressive DJ's like Sasha and Digweed, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Carl Cox etc etc. Although I'm also loving the new techno and minimal producers that are around at the moment.

After years of wanting to, I have eventually taught myself to mix, although am very much still an amateur. I have never played out, but just do it as a hobby indoors. Maybe one day I will have the talent and courage to play out somewhere. For now the odd mix posted on here will have to do. I always try to play sets that "go" somewhere and build, rather than just play big track after big track. I also try and do the longest mixes between tracks that I can, although it doesn't always work! I've noticed a lot of DJ's nowadays seem to do quick switches and drops between tracks which I think is lazy.

Anyway, not much more to say at the moment. If you listen to anything I post on here, please feel free to comment, or give contructive criticism. Nothing too abusive please as I'm still learning! Lol.
