Solid Steel (27th December) 2013 marked the 25th Anniversary of Solid Steel when Matt Black and Jon More from Coldcut started broadcasting together on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. It's been a year long celebration and we'd like to thank all the guests who have contributed incredible mixes throughout the year. To see off the year in style, we asked our listeners to vote for their favourite guest mix from the last 25 years and also their favourite mixes from our resident DJ's, with huge prizes up for grabs.

The guest mix you chose as your favourite from the last 25 years was Bonobo with his 'Directors Cut mix' of his Solid Steel Mix CD release "It came from the Sea", which was first broadcast on the 9th December 2005. It's his 2 hour version of the mix featuring tracks that didn't make the final cut including his own edit of Gang of Four and the brilliant Four Tet edit of Black Unity by Pharoah Saunders.

Up next it's your favourite mix from DK which was his 'Cymatic Frequencies' mix from the 21st January 2011. Solid Steel (7th February) In Hour 1 we welcome The Gaslamp Killer to start off the show. It's a mix of some of GLK's favourite current alternative groups specialising in the dark psychedelic side of rock and the harder edged beat music that he loves so much. Plus a couple of world psych classics in the middle, from fast to slow around we go, always a narrative journey with GLK.
DK continues with the beautiful collaboration between Debruit & Alsarah and onto the new Mount Kimbie remix for Kelis on Ninja Tune and the current single by Falty DL. Then it's a track from the Actress album Ghettoville and into the dub mix of classic 80's Boogie from Barbara Fowler, before ending with Cottam and Instra:mental from the last few years.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (26th October) The Herbaliser celebrate the release of their new album 'There were seven' with a mix by Ollie Teeba. It kicks off with Bombay Royale and their take on vintage Indian Cinema classics, then onto the DJ Numark edit of Ernie Hines and into Mr Chop with their own twist. Then it's recent hip hop from Freestyle Professors feat Sadat X, The Legion and Alchemist, a track from The Herbaliser album given an extra dub rinse, two appearances from Large Professor and closing with an Axelrod inspired track from Monophonics. "In 2009, I was asked to play the video game convention E3 in support of the release of Activision's DJ Hero. There were only two rules: include some of the mash-ups I made for the game, and no cursing please. I obliged (mostly), and there's some fun moments....recorded several months before the 2009 Halloween set, this is less about the dance floor than an attempt to reference the broader contributions of the DJ and DJ-based music.
