This is for late night listening...

As a child, I was afflicted with inhuman amounts of school homework. I had to write several essays and compositions every week and the fashioning of these went on late into the night, until my little ears were burning with tiredness.  It was always tempting to finish an adventurous and dramatic composition with the ultimate cop-out: "Then I woke up..."

But I never did, because I recognised the cliché even at the age of 12. I hope I can avoid clichés evermore. All of my future adventures will continue to have proper logical endings, I hope. However, I do sleep a lot these days... perchance to dream?

Dedication: This song is dedicated to my good friend, the late Nigel Dean (pictured here playing a memorable and brilliant Caliban in 1996).

This song I loved very much in my youth fits in nowadays as well. You can have much fun with talking about nothing and hearing about nothing, but if you try to talk about really important things, you get the "Sound of Silence" in return.

we must believe in spring
Earth axis increases
its tilt to the Sun
dew comes, frost no more
vernal peers share light

many a time belatedly
days in autumn
prepare for cold and
special smell of soil
many a time fitfully

oh we must believe in spring
let snow melt and streams swell
the hardiest flowers sprout
days in autumn
prepare for dark and
many a time forecast the yield

dobbiamo sperare nella primavera
l’asse della terra aumenta
l’inclinazione al sole
giunge la rugiada, scongela la brina
i pari dividono la luce in primavera

spesso in ritardo
i giorni d’autunno
preparano al freddo
all’odore tipico della terra
spesso irregolari nel modo

oh dobbiamo sperare nella primavera
lasciamo la neve sciogliere e i fiumi gonfiare
che spuntino i fiori più temerari
