favourite guitar solo of all time...taken me around 45 yrs to get around to learning it properly and attempting to record a version that I hope is faithful to the original (albeit a lot louder in the mix.)

Most of the tracks are my covers of famous songs - via Garageband. Most are all my playing (e.g: Breathe, Born under a Bad sign etc) as you will easily tell! a few are lead tracks on top of a professional backing track (e.g: Black Magic Woman and Peace). Both 'Fifths' and Hiphop are my own (admittedly primitive) compositions and Hiphop was my first ever recording using Garageband and is just what came out of the keyboard at the time. If there is anyone out there who still has not tried this software - you have to give it a go! The aim of uploading to Soundcloud is not to demonstrate my lack of professional playing ability but to share with friends and avoid losing my stuff in the next hard drive crash - which is never too far away!

Vocals - as always by Sarah, guitars, bass and keys by Steve and Drums courtesy of Custom Karaoke Track (We don't always use these but it does make recording and mixing a whole lot easier than playing in drums on a keyboard or searching for the right loop in Garageband). I must also go back and learn the full outro solo sometime, to make it more accurate!

High and Dry - Sarah & Steve 2025

Delivering another superb vocal is Sarah and she starts with a professional backing track of acoustic guitars and tbh that was all that she needed....I have to say that every instrument I added did not improve the track, so have just come in halfway with a bass line and another acoustic. (at one point there were violins and a mellotron line of voices and flute!). I think I will remove those too!

Our cover of Katrina and the Waves - Going down to Liverpool - with some extra harmonies from Sarah to mix in some of the flavour of The Bangles version. A lot of people think it was The Bangles song....not so...., but The Bangles interest and their version did get Katrina and the Waves signed for a recording contract for which they were very grateful. We preferred their rockier style this time out, but do love The Bangles version too.

Our cover of Green Day's Good Riddance...Can't work out if it is sincere or sarcastic, but it definitely is poignant. Great vocal again from Sarah - 12 string guitar borrowed from my bro with a 5 string electric bass. Violins courtesy of Garageband's sounds... played in on an M Audio 25 key midi keyboard and all through an Apogee One, onto an ancient (2012) Macbook Pro.

More Rock Opera than rock ...our cover of Pat Benatar track - Shadows of the Night. Kudos to Sarah for even attempting the vocals on this one. By doubling the tracks and adding harmonies with huge amounts of reverb we hope we came close.

Rhythm & Lead Guitars, Bass, Keys etc all Steve. Lots of layers that maybe won't come across on Souncloud, but sounds epic straight from Garageband through my Tannoy Monitors. Just glad it's done...we gave it our best!

This is our best shot at covering Lana Del Ray's masterpiece of a track, Mariners Apartment Complex. An outstanding song from this artist which we have done our best to cover with diligence, respect and much affection. Despite the originals apparently pared back production this track has a lot going on!

Cover of Song for Sharon from Hejira. V1.1 as the original track's backing vocals were too high in the mix (I thought they were too beautiful to miss out on hearing them!) This version has the main vocal slightly boosted and the backing vocals a little less prominent.

This is our cover of Carey by Joni Mitchell. The lead & backing vocals are Sarah and she has done a great job. I played bass plus acoustic guitars etc.

This is a cover of Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. The drum track is a paid for track from a karaoke track website - everything else was played and recorded. The vocals (shaky so down in the mix!), guitars, bass, keyboards, flute and orchestral strings were played by me (the latter were garageband instruments) and the superb sax solo by my friend Ian K.  - Nice job Thanks Ian!

Cinnamon Girl - dedicated to my friend and musical collaborator Ian who introduced me to this track (and a few others) and rekindled my interest in Neil Young.

My first attempt to record drums by playing them in on a keyboard. Next time will do these first! - and then won't have to try to adjust them to the rest of the track (hence not perfect!)

Rubbish vocals disguised somewhat by multitracking but happy with the raunchy guitar sound, which I think gets some of the feel of Neil Young's style and the unusual dropped d riff.

Had a go at some famous songs and solos mostly using backing tracks, although one is from a short lived band rehearsal and a couple are all me using GarageBand instruments.
