Someone is haunted by violent thoughts (Violence Came for Us). An expectant father feels uncertain about his future (Somewhere, Somehow). A woman wants to leave her partner (Unsung Love Songs). Someone witnesses a shift in behaviour in someone they love (Alive in the Mind of Another).

The characters in this album have a sense of uncertainty, and do not feel at ease in the world. It's not that these characters don't care about anything, they care a lot, but they feel disoriented about what their caring means.

It’s going to be a big year for Tincture’s Luke Dalton. He's back with the follow up single from his forthcoming EP, “Tryst”, which is set to cement his place in the scene as a force to be reckoned with.

Similar Circles represents a progression in his sound, borrowing influence from acts like Shelter Point and The Knife, yet never forsaking his penchant for lush synth and sharp percussion. At it's heart, Similar Circles grapples with the fear of stagnation through routine. Though you can feel a sense of yearning, the track never quite reaches the anxious resolve it strives for - "repeating, repeating, repeating until the same things come back again".

At some point in 2013, Friendly Fires, Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay (aka The Asphodells), convened in an east London pub to discuss collaborating on new music together. The plan was to produce music that came from a place outside of their respective usual musical styles - a loose, open-ended process embarked upon for the pure joy of experimentation and collaboration rather than a specific end goal.

The collaboration came on the back of two hugely successful Friendly Fires albums – 2008’s debut Friendly Fires and 2011’s follow up Pala – and an acclaimed debut album from The Asphodells in 2013’s Ruled By Passion Destroyed By Lust, the latest in a long line of classic releases from Andrew Weatherall’s own Rotters Golf Club label.

Recording took place between Weatherall’s Shoreditch studio, The Bunker, and Friendly Fires frontman Ed Macfarlane’s basement studio just a short stroll down the road in Farringdon, using a desk that once belonged to influential German producer Konrad ‘Conny’ Plank to mix the tracks.

The result is ‘Before Your Eyes’ and ‘Velo’ - two brand new tracks that take close to ten minutes each to reveal their full hypnotic glory. The tracks will be released as a AA-sided single on 12” and download and will be the inaugural release on Friendly Fires’ own Telophase label.

The Woodlands - I Need To Love You

I think this song is about the ways we avoid the most difficult parts of love: vulnerability and tenderness. Sometimes we are dishonest in our avoidance and sometimes the people who pay are the ones we love the most.  

I've been sitting on this song for a little over a year but have been reluctant to release it because truthfully the song makes me feel sad! And maybe Covid-19 soured my appetite for sad songs 😊. 

At any rate, I put a lot of work into the song so I still wanted to release it— hope you like it!
