When we first started our Mixtape Series, little did we think that we would continue onto 50 Episodes, never mind recruit some of the best talent around to be part of it. The series has certainly evolved beautifully and it must be said that it's a true honour to have some of our biggest heroes and selectors joining us too. For our 50th Episode we have a very special interview and guest mix for you. We welcome the incredible and amazing Steve Bug.

His relentless commitment to quality - both in his own work and in the many producers he has championed - has made him one of the world’s most revered artists and curators, and along with his labels Poker Flat, Sublease Music, Audiomatique, Dessous Recordings, Traffic Signs or Raw Elements, has made a sizeable contribution to building the European house and techno scene as we know it. I recorded these, using only the Roland T8 drum machine, outside as it got dark.
The first one I did at the beach in Crete (130 bpm) and the second one, a week later, in a park in Vienna (120bpm).
These spontaneous sessions are so much fun, specially at such beautiful places.

Sunset cook-up 2 Vienna PART3 In The Park

Michael Mayer and German techno go hand in hand. In the late 90s Mayer became one of the co-founders of Kompakt, the Cologne institution that’s widely regarded as one of the world’s most important techno labels.

Outside of his quintessential imprint he’s also earned his stripes as a DJ, with an ear for melody and a flair for extended marathon sets helping to define his 20-year career.

He’s also been a staple of Farringdon history, with his Room One appearances dating back as early as 2003 and a legendary edition in our mix series. Mayer has played the club over 20 times since then, but one of the most memorable remains his Room One set from back in April 2012.

Closing out the room after a set of wizardry from Craig Richards, Mayer stepped up to deliver 3.5 hours of the warm, luscious house that’s been at the heart of his 20-year career.

With his return to Room One happening just a few days from now, we dug through our archives to find Mayer’s set from that night to share here in anticipation.
