"Sometimes I got to play the role of wacky sidekick.  On my first day, the executive producer took me aside and told me, “Everything we say on-air inside the studio is not real. Nothing is personal.” 
I should have remembered this the day Kevin asked me if I wanted to go to the Olympics in Nagano, Japan. I said yes, I wanted to go. He told me, “Not really.”
Every morning, I ended up having a daily segment, where I’d call into the radio show and report from Nagano Japan. We utilized technology in all kinds of creative ways to make it seem like I was really in Japan. 
One example was being in the production studio and calling in with recorded sounds of street noise in the background. I explained how I knew what to order in the  restaurants without knowing the language. I pointed to plastic replicas. 
Another example was Kevin recording a call to a Nagano hotel and asking for my room, then playing that live on air and inserting a foreign ring tone, then cutting to me live on the telephone from my home.  That time I told Kevin how many famous US actors were advertising things on TV. 
Friends of ours stopped calling because they thought I was really in Japan. 
Each day I’d prepare for my call by finding stories of people’s trips to Japan and making the stories mine. 
In one segment I told Kevin how I took the bullet train to the mountains to go to a natural hot spring.
That was a lot of fun."
