Danish four-piece, Yung, announce their international debut EP, Alter, with single ‘Nobody Cares’ - a brash and persuasive slice of Nordic punk, with a rare sense of rhythm and melody bands that recalls the Replacements, Jay Retard and Ty Segall. Alter is released on March 2nd through Tough Love Records on limited edition 12" vinyl and digital formats. NOTE TO COLLECTORS - 100 copies will be available on red vinyl ONLY from the Tough Love Store - 

Formed in the summer of 2013 by 20 year old frontman Mikkel Holm Silkjær (guitar, vocals) in  the north of Aarhus - Denmark’s second largest city and what locals would say, the current punk rock capital - along with friends Frederik Nybo Veile (drums), Tobias Guldborg Tarp (bass) and Emil Zethsen (guitar), Yung have spent the past year building up a formidable live reputation in their native Denmark. As their name would suggest, Yung play with a youthful exuberance and feverish energy that leaves little room to catch your breath. 

Growing out of Mikkel’s teenage dreams and the harsh reality of what is the everyday life of young adulthood, Alter serves both as a vehicle for and an escape from the bewildered frustration of having to deal with life’s treadmill - trying to find a tolerable and  meaningful place in the world, whilst wasting time at useless jobs in order to enjoy whatever little freedom that’s left; to hang out with friends and, first and foremost, devote his time to music. It's no coincidence that Alter was written and recorded just two months after the band formed - there's an urgency here, and that primacy is self-evident in their music. 

Kicking in with a shrill guitar duel, lead single ‘Nobody Cares’ soon flourishes into a bouyant rhythm section. It’s all a trick of the light, however - the true abrasive face of the track revealing itself in a snarl of punk-rock euphoria and burnt-out vocals. It’s a track that veers between images of wide-eyed beachside holidays and a tortured desert wilderness, and it’s all the more gripping for its polarity. As such, it's the perfect introduction to Alter - and Yung - as a whole.

Beloved New Orleans trumpeter and vocalist, Kermit Ruffins, returns proclaiming his love and pride for his hometown with #imsoneworleans. Good times and a carefree attitude permeate this collection of originals and covers that features The Barbecue Swingers, Kermit's regular gigging band, for the first time in over a decade.
The album pulls from various styles including New Orleans classics like "Iko Iko" and "Tipitina," vintage Kermit Ruffins originals from his time with Rebirth Brass Band like the Caribbean-tinged "Mexican Special," and a two-part title-track, an homage to the city he loves so dearly replete with dedications to music legends and anecdotes about his life growing up in the Big Easy. The album also includes two timeless ballads each featuring guest vocalists--Nayo Jones, a regular featured guest at Kermit's live shows, belts her way through Etta James' "At Last," and introducing Kaylin Orleans Ruffins, Kermit's youngest daughter, in a heartfelt duet with her dad on "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

Melbourne-based shoegazers Flyying Colours return with a second EP of psychedelic pop textures tempered with sugar-rush melodies. The ‘ROYGBIV’ EP is out May 11th on Club AC30 and Shelflife.

Hailing from a country more synonymous with the beachcombers and the sunshine coast than shoegaze luminaries, Flyying Colours have nonetheless been compared to Lush and Ride, weaving smooth, tactile vocals with coarse textures with finely-crafted songwriting. 

True to their name, Flyying Colours unashamedly display their influences on ROYGBIV – tone-bending My Bloody Valentine / Swervedriver guitars, ferocious bass hooks and the familiar soft hush of early 90s dueting vocals. Added to the mix is their own edgy, refreshing pop-mindedness, buoyed by the lush vocal interplay 

On ‘Running Late’ guitars overlap, playing seemingly different melodies and rhythms, as the vocals float up from the ether of the background. Hearkening back to the 80s but also at once sounding thoroughly futuristic, there’s finely-textured guitar loops and lo-fi delay used to get effect throughout the record. ‘Not Today’ and ‘Leaks’ share the same considerable style and skill: successfully channelling not just Kevin Shield’s growling, bending, wall-of-sound guitars, but also Bilinda Butcher’s cooing, unintelligible vocals. The album opener ‘I Don’t Want To Let You Down’ sports a rolling darkwave groove that’s like Joy Division gone psychedelic. 

Formed in 2011, Flyying Colours self-titled EP received a considerable amount of attention, which was then backed up by their explosive live shows, setting them well apart from others occupying Melbourne's fledgling shoegaze scene. A follow-up, ROYGBIV is a snapshot of a band reaching for the heavens and finding themselves reflected in at all over the cosmos: a sign of greater things to come.

This song is about that feeling of being really into something, be it a song, an idea, a fashion look, a social group, a band, a person etc. It was initially inspired by an 8 year old friend of mine who is obsessed with the game, Mine Craft. He didn't know what it meant to be obsessed with something, but once I told him the meaning of the word, he promptly stated that he was obsessed with Mine Craft. That's how I started writing this song:) It ended up being more about the playfulness in my romantic relationship, in the verses, but maintains some of the game and other types of obsession in the choruses:)
