This sad and devastating local story has been on my mind for a long time.... I'm reminded about this tragedy nearly everyday as I run along the Mississippi Blvd and see the memorial.

A few months back, anyone landing on this page was extended an invitation to….“come set for a spell in The Blue Room…..when nobody loves you.”  Well, took a while, but I reckon the word’s getting out amongst the broken hearted - this smoky little back-alley jazzabilly joint been seeing some semi-decent crowds lately.  Might have to add a couple more tables over there in that side area where we been storing the old feltless pool table.   

I dunno, maybe there really are a lot of lonely hearts out there, looking for companionship.  But my bet is that the real draw here is the new act on stage, as the house band is now joined by two long-time Atlanta musicians - Herb Avery and his Hammond organ, and Randy Hunter with his saxophone.   

For this version of the house theme song (aka The Blue Room), not only is my fumbly-finger organ solo replaced with Randy’s stellar saxophone, but I’ve put together a new intro, much more fitting for the new instrumentation.   And btw, brother Herbert not only plays his Hammond on the song, but that’s him you’ll hear on the background lounge piano as the track opens.

So yeah, come set for a spell (whether you're loved or not), and let Randy & Herb show you their stuff.

This is another cover of an oldies tune, 'Another Saturday Night*', written by the great Sam Cooke (he wrote the song while staying in a hotel where no female guests were allowed). But this version is a cover of another cover - Cat Steven's version of the song. Cat's version is more upbeat, with a bit of a Latin feel to it. Being a fan of both versions, I threw in a sample of Cooke's original at the very end, and the voices from the studio recording at the very beginning, including a count off by Cooke himself, just for fun. I REALLY enjoyed doing this one, and hope it shows in the recording. Thanks for listening.

In December 2015, RIP OFF THE SCAB and DREAM DESTINATION were selected by a US A&R agent for promotion to artists, In July 2017 - HIGHEST ROOM also picked up by a US agent for promotion. July 2018 DON'T YOU TURN AWAY selected by NY agent to promote to a London soul singer. August 2018 LOVE MY LIFE assigned to BuyNZ audiovisual advertising. December 2018 WHERE CIGARETTES FALL forwarded by Taxi.com to US TV music director. Latest 3 albums seek to marry singer songwriter Imagery with multi-harmony musical movement. 2024 FLOATING INTO WONDER and ECCENTRICITY SO BEAUTIFUL got airplay on a New Foundland radio station. Dec 24 FAKING IRONY and CAUGHT UP IN A WAR have have gotten a foothold in Spotify.

There is so much talent and variety here, and most of the people are pretty cool too. I love being part of this community. Listening to your music and being heard in return is enough.

Still reading? OK I'm gonna muse a bit. It's hard to fully convey how much this forum has meant to me. There are people I've never met that feel very much like old friends -- and in a very real way they are.
If I follow someone I make every effort to listen to and support their efforts. It's certainly not a transactional relationship but I do tend to limit my follows to people who engage in mutual listening and engagement. If you listen and leave a comment I always try to listen to *your* music when responding! If you follow at random without any feedback I hope you get something out of that too... ; )
