The Eclectic Collective – composition

This song began with Josh coming up with the fonky-ass bass line and sharing it with everyone else. First up to bat was Ken, of course, who really matched the idea I had for the bass perfectly and gave it some flavor, too. Once we had a rhythm section solidified, Tez jumped in with the Kruangbin inspired arpeggios, and really gave the whole thing the flavor that it ended up with. Scotty followed soon after with his melodic/rhythmic leads that match his awesome vocal melodies. Next up was Stephen, who laid in the fiery solo towards the end, as well as some really trippy e-bowed guitar throughout. Then JJ came along and lit it up with his electric piano and synth. Finally, Chris came forward and added the distinct, exciting guitar intro. 
  Of course, we needed someone to produce and mix it, so we asked Tez to handle this one, which he did with his usual high wizardly magic. It is very gratifying to all of us to have Chris back in the mix on this one, as well as some upcoming releases, as well. This was the first time any of us has collaborated with Scotty, and we are thrilled that we finally got a chance. He's a creative, driven, and very agreeable musical partner, who's willing to work with us until we all get it right. We all hope this is just the first of many with him involved. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

Music for Danse Etoile Ballet (www.danseetoile.org) who will be performing Frida's Wings, a ballet based on the life and works of Frida Kahlo, June 2024 in Colorado.
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self portraits and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico.  Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. She is also known for painting about her experience of chronic pain. In most of her self-portraits, she depicts her face as mask-like, but surrounded by visual cues which allow the viewer to decipher deeper meanings. Aztec mythology features heavily in Kahlo's paintings in symbols including skeletons and skulls.  In the painting, Dream of The Bed, painted in the year of 1940, Frida expressed her feeling and interception of death, which depicts a skeleton on the canopy of her bed (as she had in her real life). Her husband, Diego Rivera called the Juda, Frida's lover, but Frida said it's just an amusing reminder of people's mortality. Frida Kahlo spent much of her life in pain.  As As a teenager she suffered a horrific bus accident which left her unable to have children and meant she needed more than 30 operations on her spine. Eventually her withered leg had to be amputated and she died at 47. She said in her diary: “Feet, why do I need you, if I have wings to fly”

The photo is Marc performing in a house concert at our place in 2005. Water On Stone has always been a real favorite of Marc's songs and we set about recording it about 10 years ago. Marc being a perfectionist - it look ages just to record his guitar and vocal and I added the 2nd guitar and vocal later. This is much like how we performed it as a duo. What a force was Marc - such a huge personality in our lives.

When we started this collaboration, like everyone on this planet, we were hit by the pandemic and the effects on our lives.  Earth stopped for a moment and we could feel her heartbeat ...and with it the will to overcome anything!

My emotions have been all over the place……like most people I guess. Always trying to see the best out of it, but struggling at times.  All this controversy about the virus. Trying to adapt and go with the flow. 
Anyway, today and the last few days have been glorious…..so warm and sunny. Looking at this bright blue sky cheers me up and gives me hope. So, enough dark thoughts, enough dark days.

Im from Melbourne Australia, I have been playing guitar for many years now and played in two bands during the 80's & 90's (STOLEN CAR original) & (STORM cover),both bands never released any material. Since 2010 i have been writing songs and tunes and recording them in my music room (3rd Bedroom), i play Guitar, Bass, Keys, BFD2 Drums(programmed)and Vocals on all of my songs which i class as Demo's, I love all types of music but Hard Rock, Rock to Alternative appeals to me most.

In Dec 2012  DUNEDIN SOUND reached  no. 26 on NZ on Air "The Audience" chart. In December 2015, RIP OFF THE SCAB and DREAM DESTINATION were selected by a US A&R agent for promotion to artists, In July 2017 - HIGHEST ROOM also picked up by a US agent for promotion. July 2018 DON'T YOU TURN AWAY selected by NY agent to promote to a London soul singer. August 2018 LOVE MY LIFE assigned to BuyNZ audiovisual advertising. December 2018 WHERE CIGARETTES FALL forwarded by Taxi.com to US TV music director. Latest album SLEEPS ON FIRE seeks to marry Leonard Cohen Imagery with Steely Dan musical movement. Daytime job is in anaesthesiology and healthcare leadership.
