Steve Lucas ... Retrospective

This song is dedicated to the Child Wise Charity and the people who work there.
All join hands....
I recorded this at home on my computer.
I basically wrote arranged and played the whole song.
I got my daughter Madelaine to sing the chorus with me.
Apart from the guitars and vocals everything else was played by myself on a keyboard.

It was written as a tribute to George Martin and his work withThe Beatles.

Hmmmm.... This song is called My Kind Of Guy (Gal)

I wrote this for ex X drummer Cath Synnerdahl. One of my dearest friends but sadly no longer with us. Cath was something else. Really. A transexual that trancended sex. Warm, awkward and incredibly funny as being a brilliant musician. I wrote this song in order to break down the barrires.
After she died her parents told she kept a copy of the lyrics in her pocket where ever she went.

I perform all the tracks. Sang the vocals played the guitars and did the rest with a borrowed Yamahah(?) key board (Might have been a Korg). It was recorded on my PC same as All Join Hands. It was supposed to be a romp and a bit of a laugh. Cant help feeling sentimetal though...

I'm Yours.

This is an instrumental I recorded at home on my computer... It may have lyrics one day but the right words have not et found their way home to rest. ( It has taken up 15 years on occsasion to find the right words) So once more the tusty keyboard, guitars (bass, slide, accoustic and electric) and drum machine get an airing. I was trying to create a 'landscape' that was visual as well as aural. Please let me know what you think. S.L.

The Kiss Off.
I wrote this when my marriage brke up... let's be honest, I'm amongst friends am I not?
I recorded it with A.R.M but it could have easily ended up as a Bigger Than Jesus song.
It is bitter and unrelenting but an interesting piece of music noe the less. Hope you enjoy!

Lamb to the Slaughter.
Another home recording with side kick drum machine and me doing the honors on the fretless instruments. Wrote some lyrics for this about 'the music industry" conspiracy thing but have not got around to laying them down... not quite there as yet. Have been sitting on this for a few years now.
I think it is pretty raunchy in an old fashioned kind of way.

Gotta Make You Mine. 
This is a retake I did with A.R.M. The first version was on an early solo album with White Cross backing me, now long out of print. I wrote in the early 80's. 
Once again primal screaming and guitars performed by myself with bass and drums Mike Couvret and Chris Welsh, respectively... and with undying respect. What rythm section they were. God they were good!


03 Gotta Make Youy Mine

Neon And Venom.
Have christened new band with this moniker. The song comes from the album A ONCE AND FUTURE THING by The Pubert Brown-Fridge Occurrance. I produced it as a mock live recordng at the Dapto RSL for reasons of my own.(Had a run in with the management) It was a track that was part of the 'concept' that was a once and future thing.
I did the lead vocals, piano and organ.
Geoff Hlomes did the brilliant guitar work, Jim Dickson played bass superbly, John Butler whacked the drums into another realm and Rebecca Hancock joined all of us with the backing vocals. A cast of thousands!!!

Walking On Fire. 
Ok, ballad time again. I wrote and arranged this story of love gone wrong. I recorded it at HotHouse Studio in St Kilda. Rosie Westbrook played duoble bass as well as bowing it for the middle 8. Cath Synerdahl played the percussion on a snare like bongos. I think she did the temple bells as well. 
I did all the giutar work and insisted on tambourine. An old flame adde some fire... 
It is one of my personal faves. Never been released... my publishers reckoned I could do better. Special thanks to craig Harneth for letting it happen and hats off to Will Burston for encouragement and support.

This is really co-written with my daughter Madelaine. I was teaching her how to play the guitar and she came up with the basic progression and then I added a bit more to it and made up some words... that was so long ago. Finally I decided to make a recording of it and here it is. I play everything on it as always when it comes to my home demos...
