This collection demonstrates my ability to record guitar, bass, piano, and vocals and is 100% my own work. 

I currently own a drum kit but unfortunately I still need to purchase some drum mics. I can send a pop track with some drums that I performed and recorded for a group called 'The Lovettes' (see CV) if requested, but don't currently have the track with me as it was recorded at someone else's studio. 

The Willie Nelson track was recorded for a vocal student at the music academy I used to work at as they couldn't sing it in the original key. The rest are my own personal recordings. I stayed fairly faithful to the original on Just Breathe although minus the strings and vocal harmonies, the rest of the tracks contain a mix of cover and original material. I've also included a few sample tracks that aren't quite finished but relevant all the same.

After a frustrating week last week not being able to sing and not really enjoying making an instrumental track because of it. I'm pleased that this week I managed to have more fun with writing something instrumental and not take the challenge too seriously. I especially enjoyed being able to make something more free-form. I used reason rewired in to pro tools which was  cool as I've not tried it before.

Week 6 - Minimalism. Had to look up what minimalist music was this morning and came across a piece by Steve Reich called music for 18 musicians, which this is loosely inspired by. Ended up adding some field recording I did of a building site and various other found sounds around Lancaster and Morecambe.

Week Number 7, the theme this week was love. 

Inspired by some interesting arrangements and instrument choices from others submissions last week I decided to record a few firsts namely accordion and ukulele. To keep it themed I did some searching around for a poetry reading and I love this guys voice and felt the music kinda fit the dark and tragic story the poem tells. 

I've also added another little ditty at the end that I've been playing around with, mainly to hopefully get some pointers on my bass playing/recording, tone etc, as it's something I want to work on.

Week Number 7, the theme this week is love.

Inspired by some interesting arrangements and instrument choices from others submissions last week I decided to record a few firsts namely accordion and ukulele. To keep it themed I did some searching around for a poetry reading and I love this guys voice and felt the music kinda fit the dark and tragic story the poem tells.

I've also added another little ditty at the end (hence the title) that I've been playing around with, mainly to hopefully get some pointers on my bass playing/recording, tone etc, as it's something I want to work on. In hind sight I probably should've spent more time on the poem one but I had too much fun this morning trying to get my bass groove on.

Got a some new percussion instruments this week, so this track came about from playing around with my new cajon and a seed pod shaker, plus finally got round to doubling my mic collection with the addition of an sm57 :D

The sound owes a lot to the mellower kyuss/desert/stoner tunes I grew up listening to, really nice to get back to it. 

I didn't plan on doing vocals but with the theme being fear, I happened to stumble across a poem called fear in a book I've been reading, which gave me the inspiration for the lyric. Still struggling with hoarseness but thankfully got an appointment with an ENT doctor.

Week 9's the theme this week was 7th chords this one centres around Dm7 when I first saw this theme I thought I'd go crazy and use loads of different chords and maybe even some 3rd inversion 7ths but I've been on holiday all week so I only had one day to do this so I just went with the first idea that came out in the end. 

I'm quite pleased how it turned out for a quick one, and I got to work my new melodica into it so another first for me as far as recording new instruments go :D

Originally had this listed as an electronic track, but just realised there's not a single electronic instrument in it. Not knowing what else to class it as I made up the genre of melodica-funk. I debated downtempo but wasn't sure.

Party with a Purpose

This weeks theme was to write a song about childhood or kids in general. 

Originally I was gonna make this an instrument piece and just keep the vibe as something childlike. I started off building some percussion loops thinking about how we all loved to bash pots and pans as kids. As it grew out of that I was also thinking of how cool it is how instinctively young kids dance when they hear music.
