"Mexcio Lindo" tells the story of a man who loses his lover when he has to take her to a mexican cantina in Waco known as "Mexico Lindo" where she catches a bus to Mexico City to go home to help her father.  After many years of silence, he boards the same bus to search for her.

Remembering

In 2007, Carter Albrecht, Dave Monsey and I were working on tracks for Carter's then untitled solo album.  Programed beats and samples were being thrown around as we were trying to find a unique sonic identifier for this set of songs. They were spiritual in nature, so I felt it was important to have them half grounded sonically in an urban place.  So we were working at my studio in the country, in a preverbial ghost town, on very urban music.  

This track never made the final album, partly because we never had a good mix on it and couldn't find the soul of the mix at that time. So it was shelved. We couldn't tell if Carter had been serious about this song at that time, and he wasn't there to tell us. So it was put away. 

Ten years after the album came out, I found the files for this song on the archive and called Dave Monsey to ask him what his thoughts were on revisiting it in the mixing room.  We met at my friend Rob Henson's studio in a little Colombian-style hacienda outside Austin. Rob had the big SSL console and outboard gear that was similar to to what we had mixed on in LA.  We pulled up the tracks and it was if Carter stopped by to say "hello". We could almost hear him laugh.  The song is a little blessing from an old friend.  To me, it seems as if it were supposed to be heard at a later time instead of then.
