PFG Progcasts

Hello and welcome back to PFG -The Progcast, our exclusive weekly travelogue exploring the world of Planet Prog.

Continuing on our mini break around the British Isles, we head north of the border to our first trip into Scotland, and her capital Edinburgh. We searched long and hard to find a DJ to represent his country WITHOUT turning to a big name, and we're happy to announce we think you'll agree with our selection. Popular amongst the many groups, podcasts and online stations that he plays for, PFG are proud to present.... Stevie Reid!

I've always had an interest in dark electronic music when growing up, but I think it was seeing Leftfield live in 1996 which set me on the path to the dark progressive house that I love. My first interest in DJing didn’t arrive until 2006, but it quickly became an obsession that has never left me.

Come 2010 I was playing regularly at Edinburgh club night Karnival, and thanks to my friend, Kev Wright  (producer and veteran of the Edinburgh club scene) I was able to get involved in some production, seeing several tracks released together.

After a few years feeling disconnected from the scene, I resumed recording mixes regularly in 2016, and never looked back. In the last three years I’ve been fortunate enough to have my entry to a mix competition picked out by Quivver, appear on Gai Barone’s Patterns show, do guest mixes for Saturo Sounds and 21C Progressive House, and play a gig in New York with two of my closest friends.

 After an initial guest mix for Progressive House UK, they asked me to become  resident with them. I find it incredibly exciting to have a platform on which to create mixes every month, alongside other great DJ's.

PFG The Progcast - Episode 26 - Stevie Reid

Hello and welcome along to another PFG Progcast... each week bringing you an exclusive podcast/DJ Mix from different locations around the world. Today we take our second trip into Scotland, and another talented individual from Edinburgh. Ladies and Gentleman.... Steven Doyle! 

Steven is a house head from the burgh, whose musical tastes are wide ranging and cover a broad spectrum of genres...

 It was in 1998 I stumbled across a night called Sublime @Wilkie house in Edinburgh, although it was probably a year later when a visit to the legendary Venue nightclub that I became hooked on the whole clubbing culture. 
I was fascinated by the DJs and how they created these amazing soundtracks we danced to and eager to reprise that feeling I picked up my first SoundLabs around 2002.
Over time I practiced and taught myself how to mix on vinyl, eventually upgraded to 1210s which i still have today. Since then I have learned how to use different formats for DJing too.

Although having no formal musical background I just enjoy mixing tunes and making people smile and dance, and always prefer to play a warming up and building style , rather than pigeonholing a specific genre. I feel Progressive is a style of mixing that creates a soundscape with grooves and rhythms , beats and basslines .

PFG The Progcast - Episode 34 - Steven Doyle

Originally from Scotlands coastal East Lothian but now based in Edinburgh . Very broad musical tastes influenced over the years, my parents loved a party, their music definitely influenced me.

I was into early gangsta rap in 90s, then Leftfield,Daft punk etc , whilst working in a kitchen as a teenager in a Saturday, i listened to Pete Tong before finishing work and heading home for the essential mix later! 

Became hooked on clubbing during the early days of prog , 2000 onwards it was every weekend nearly.My love of clubbing and music has never stopped from those days.


Picked up Belt drive turntables before moving to 1210s in 06 and added Pioneers, I still use vinyl but mainly digital nowadays.


Over the years I have played in clubs in Edinburgh at nights such as Beatroot, Karnival. 

Aswell as Edinburgh I have also played at Kinfolk in Williamsburg ,Brooklyn NYC, Cariocas Beach Bar in Greece and also in the glamorous Cote d'Azur areas of St Raphael/Frejus. 

I hit a buffer in 2018 due to family circumstances and it wasn't until 2020 I got back into DJing again. 

I did 2 vinyl live streams during lockdown and afterwards I was Invited to do guest mixes for Online group PFG , I was then asked by Steven Mccreery and Kev Wright to do mixes for Beat 106. In July 2022 I was asked by Belgium/France based station, Xbeat radio to do a mix. I have since done a further 6 mixes for them .

The Pinnacle for me has been playing at the mighty Skyline parties in Glasgow, I was first asked to play at their 2nd Birthday Sudbeat Showcase in May 2024 alongside Graziano Raffa, Marcelo Vasami, Nicolas Rada, GMJ and Matter .

Incredibly I was asked to play again at the Selador records party in September 2024. Dave Seaman and  Steve Parry, alongside Kasey Taylor,Tara Brooks.

I like to try and use music from many different genres and artists. Anything goes ! 

From Ambient sounds to Hip Hop,Jazz,Disco and on to good ol House music with anything else in-between! 

I continue to record guest mixes for stations around Europe and hopefully beyond in the future ,
