Hello. Didn’t have the time yet to make the playlist as it always takes ages but just uploaded yesterday’s show to SoundCloud. 4hour Journey starting Mellow Mellow and it went up up up from there. Apart from loving the music and especially the first hour of soul and R&B, I guess I am also highly entertained myself because I never know what I am gonna do. Each curveball throws me off as much as my audience :) or it doesn’t but it’s always cheeky and good fun. It really happy when people realize what I am doing .. it’s so nice to delve deep into the music with my people @oriab_gram @frankie_lobozz @jaynewinstanley @revolutionsldn @funkymusak @zuzipesko @makreacts @g_luap_ @pretty_tough_tt @brian_reaves and so many more. I owe you because you give me the headspace to explore and go deep and it’s wonderful 🥰
I suppose longer is the way to go for me. At some point it just clicks . It’s to breathe out all the air of your lunges so you can actually fill them up with fresh air altogether. In the Same way I am breathing out the staleness of a year in lockdown and make space for new vibes and inspiration. Instead of standing still and getting rusty I am taking this opportunity to renew myself and fill myself up with music and sounds and vibes and love. I can only offer that you participate and get a slice for yourself. But it’s ok if it stays in our small group as well. I am blessed to have your ears, your time, your Humor, your love. Who is Kai Alcé?

There is a certain type of artist that transcends generational and artistic boundaries, that channels their experiences while simultaneously fostering an environment for others to thrive. Kai Alcé is a prime example. Born in New York, some of his earliest musical influences included his mother’s penchant for soca music and the distinct Caribbean rhythms of his culture. An appreciation of Jazz would be further guided by his father’s expanding audiophile home system. Moving to Detroit in 1980, the start of the decade where Techno would take formation, put him at the center of music history as the Belleville Three and their contemporaries molded house into the new sound, while simultaneously working at the now famed nightclub “The Music Institute”

Relocating to Atlanta, GA for school he took it upon himself to bring more of the authentic House and Techno flavor to his new home, playing at numerous clubs and bars in the metro area. Eventually this led to DEEP, his aptly-named, game changing decade long Saturday night residency at local club MJQ, where would bring guests such as King Britt, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Peven Everett, Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher and Joe Claussell.

It is during the 2000s that Kai really sets his stride. 2002 saw the release of his first production, ‘The Kaizer EP’, on Brett Dancer’s seminal deep house label Track Mode. After a few releases on other labels such as Moodymann’s Mahogani Music, Deep Explorer & Real Soon. A few years later he would co-found the Labor Day weekend outdoor event House In The Park with DJ Ramon Rawsoul which now has over 15,000 attendees with many traveling from around the world to partake in the revelries.

2008 would prove to be the defining year of Kai’s decade as it saw the creation of his label NDATL and the first edition of his annual Deep Detroit. NDATL stands for the cities that Kai has called home and have played a role in his musical development: New York, Detroit, ATLanta. Which is home to many of his own productions and A List producers such as Larry Heard, Mr. G, Theo Parrish & Mike Huckaby to name a few.

Never one to stay static he has recently curated the boutique Kai Alcé Eyewear line. “The Kaizer” never stops moving. A love of life, mixed with his flair for originality, willingness to experiment and devotion to the dancefloor has cemented his place as a pillar in American dance music history. Whatever comes next from Mr. Alcé, you can be assured that it will be classy, soulful, fulfilling and funky. Stay tuned because you never know what the man will have for you next!

A warm welcome to Julien Minarro aka Waxist!

Julien is a Lyon based DJ, producer and co runs the SOL Discos reissue label along side Pascal Rioux (a la @favoriterec) 

I’ve been in touch with Julien for a while now and stoked that he agreed to do a mix for us. His Serendipity show on @lemellotron and Red Stripe Disco mixes have been a big source of inspiration for me over the years!

Waxist has turned out some killer disco edits on labels including Kalakuta Soul, @rainandshinerecords @culturesofsoul & @isleofjurarecords He’s also a dab hand at A&R and been involved in official reissues of some of the rarest disco records out there. His own label SOL Discos has put out 3x 45s and 2x LP comps, so go check those out.

The last time Steven Wilson of the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree visited Soundcheck, he didn’t play live in the studio. Instead, he let our listeners download a song he’d recorded just for them in his home studio. It became one of the most popular things we’ve ever offered on the Soundcheck page. Today, this guitar wiz tries his hand at solo piano. And, he debuts a track from his upcoming solo album 'Grace for Drowning.'
