My special guest this week is Hansi, a DJ, Producer and Sound Engineer from St Albans in the UK. Hansi was immersed in music from an early age, going to gigs with his Dad who was a Jazz Drummer. He was once the bass player in a band, until his DJ career took off in the 90s, when he played at clubs and festivals throughout the UK, spinning rare groove, funk and house. He still has a staggering collection of vinyl from those days, with an estimated 3000-4000 records.

In 2000 he started a DJ night in St Albans called The Monday Club which became a bit of an institution running for a mighty 10 years and featuring both local and established DJs such as Dreadzone, The Freestylers, Brandon Block, Flux Pavillion, Chris Clark, Nicky Blackmarket, Sigma etc

In 2004 he started running a local live music venue called The Horn which was subsequently nominated for UK Music Pub of The Year at The Great British Pub Awards 5 times, winning it 3 times.

More recently Hansi started making remixes and edits of classic funk and soul tracks, breathing new life and energy into them. They are released under his own successful record label, Viking Grooves, and his most recent EP hit the number 1 spot in the Junodownload charts. "I wanted to represent what we did, do and are into", says Rusty. "I wanted to have midtempo breaks, ghetto funk, moombahton, hip hop, funk and everything that makes our sound unique. Hopefully people feel it.. I used some DC artists to give them some shine and even a twerk tune because that's what I like.. straight vibes." 

Made up of Frank Cueto and Rusty Belicek, All Good Funk Alliance has opened up for the legendary James Brown, written songs for Coca-Cola and appeared on the Breakspoll Top 50 list. In other words, these guys are no strangers to the funk. And while their musical tastes range the gamut, when Frank and Rusty join forces the end result is always the same: they deliver a sound that is funky, fun and fresh. 

All Good Funk Alliance has long been lauded by critics and fans alike, and DJs looking to inject flavor into their sets invariably seek out that unmistakable AGFA sound. Their remix of big band legend Woody Herman's track, "Mambo Herd," was met with critical acclaim, and the boys recently signed a major remix deal to put their indelible, funk-infused spin on Kraak and Smaak's hit album “Plastic People." When AGFA's release, "REC," dropped in 2007, Properly Chilled described it as "modern funk mixing the best of hip hop and funk [with] lots of percussion breakdowns." Turntable Lab has also raved about the duo's sound, summing it up as: “continually hitting the head-nodding nape." 

Since 1999, All Good Funk Alliance has released music on a host of labels, including its own heavyweights: Funk Weapons, Super Hi-Fi Recordings and Baffin Island Beat Brigade. Frank and Rusty have played at clubs and festivals around the globe—from Canada to Australia—and the pair has even opened up for the iconic godfather of soul himself, James Brown. 

Recognized as influential pioneers of the Nu-Funk and mid-tempo breaks sounds, AGFA's innovation and originality has earned them universal respect across the breaks industry. Many years ago I started making music by cutting sounds together on a cassette tape deck recorder, otherwise known as pause mixing . 
I recently found the same cassette recorder machine in a second hand store, so I thought it would be a challenge to see if I could create an old skool pause mix again. 
This mix was made entirely on cassette using vinyl with no computer!

Parallel to the current Renegades of Rhythm Tour with Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow paying tribute to Afrika Bambaataa and his legendary record collection, Cut Chemist drops the timely "Mix By Jimmy".

Take a peak into the exclusive material from hip hop pioneer DJ Afrika Bambaataa.  "Mix By Jimmy" features recordings Bambaataa had pressed to acetate for spinning live at shows in the late 70's and early 80's. This mix includes entirely unreleased material along with demo versions of hits like "Looking For The Perfect Beat," "Renegades of Funk" and "Planet Rock. "

I live in Newcastle in the UK I'm a producer and DJ named Smoove . Crossing all musical boarders in my own compositions and in my DJ sets by fusing Funk, Northern Soul, Hip Hop, Breakbeats, Disco and Jazz.
I DJ in the UK and Europe with tours promoting the late 2005 release of my debut album “Dead Men’s Shirts” on Acid Jazz Records.

2006 saw the creation of the succesfull my own label Wack Records including the first releases “Big Love” 

I released my second album ‘Gravy’ (Remixes & Rarities) on Acid Jazz Records in 2007 which featured the B-Boy smash athem “Im A Man”. 

In 2012 I released an album "First Class" on Jalapeno Records featuring various remix works followed by Recorded Delivery album in 2019.

Smoove and Turrell first collaborated in 2009 having released our first album “Antique soul” on Jalapeno Records and have released 7 studio albums including ‘Eccentric Audio, Crown Posada, Broken Toys, Mount Pleasant, Stratos Bleu & Red Ellen.
